Godzilla: King of Monsters Film Casts The Walking Dead's Elizabeth Ludlow

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Film slated for March 22, 2019

Entertainment news website Deadline reported on Monday that actress Elizabeth Ludlow (The Walking Dead) is joining the ensemble cast of Godzilla: King of Monsters, the sequel film to Legendary Pictures' 2014 Godzilla movie.

Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga (Up in the Air, The Conjuring, Bates Motel), and Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) will star in the film as a father, mother, and daughter.

Other new cast members include:

Ken Watanabe (The Last Samurai, Letters from Iwo Jima, Inception) and Sally Hawkins (Paddington, Blue Jasmine) are returning from the 2014 film.

Warner Bros. plot summary for the film below confirms appearances by Mothra, Rodan, and King Ghidorah — three classic kaiju from earlier Godzilla films.

The new story follows the heroic efforts of the crypto-zoological agency Monarch as its members face off against a battery of god-sized monsters, including the mighty Godzilla, who collides with Mothra, Rodan, and his ultimate nemesis, the three-headed King Ghidorah. When these ancient super-species—thought to be mere myths—rise again, they all vie for supremacy, leaving humanity's very existence hanging in the balance.

Principal photography began in June. Filming is primarily taking place in Atlanta, Georgia.

Michael Dougherty (Krampus) is directing the sequel, after co-writing the script with his Krampus writing partner Zach Shields. Dougherty previously led the writing room collaborators who brainstormed how to unite the current Godzilla and King Kong projects under Legendary's "MonsterVerse" franchise.

Legendary announced the title Godzilla: King of Monsters in December, although a press release from June does not mention a title. The film is slated for March 22, 2019. The planned Godzilla vs. Kong crossover film from director Adam Wingard is slated for May 22, 2020.
