20-year-old student allegedly threatened to kill Uesaka

Tokyo's Akasaka Police Station arrested the 20-year-old fifth-year technical college student Tatsuya Onodera on Wednesday on the charge of interfering with work duties after he allegedly posted threats online to kill voice actress Sumire Uesaka. Police arrested Onodera in the Hiyoridamachi area of Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture, and he reportedly admitted to using his cell phone to post the threats.

According to police, Onodera posted the threats such as "I'll definitely murder her" on the Internet message board 2 Channel in June. Police arrested the suspect under suspicion of disrupting Uesaka's work duties after her agency held meetings to respond to the threats and hired a guard. According to police, Onodera is a fan of Uesaka, and he posted about 20 threats. Her agency filed a report in July.

Uesaka's anime voice roles include The IDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls' Anastasia, Show By Rock!!'s Chuchu, Kan Colle's Fubuki, Hōzuki no Reitetsu's Peach Maki, and Girls und Panzer's Nonna. She has also performed theme songs for anime such as Love, Chunibyo & Other Delusions!, Nobunagun, and Aho Girl.

Update: Uesaka's agency Spacecraft Entertainment commented on the incident on Uesaka's blog, thanking fans for their support and reaffirming its position that these threats have interfered with the work activities of Uesaka and the agency staff. It expressed its appreciation that the police are treating it as a criminal case, given the number of instances of threats.
