Seitokai Yakuindomo Anime Film Tops Mini-Theater Ranking For 2nd Weekend

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
Film opened on July 21

Gekijōban Seitokai Yakuindomo, the theatrical anime project based on Tozen Ujiie's Seitokai Yakuindomo manga, topped the mini-theater ranking in its second weekend during the July 29-30 weekend in Japan. The film opened in Japan on July 21, and is currently screening in 16 theaters. The film also topped the mini-theater rankings during its opening weekend.

Screenings of the film are distributing a "mini-vinyl booklet" with illustrations by Ujiie. The booklet will have spoilers and the staff recommend that theatergoers open the booklet after watching the film. Some theaters screening the film will also give theatergoers a different bonus item each week with a new illustration by Ujiie, for the first four weeks the film is in theaters. More theaters will begin screening the film on September 2.

Hiromitsu Kanazawa directed the film and also oversaw the scripts. GoHands (K, Hand Shakers) returned from the first series to animate the film, and Klock Worx distributed the film. Makoto Furuta also returned as the character designer and chief animation director. Ken Naito was the new art director, and Takanori Kikuchi was the new director of photography. Yūya Mori again composed the music, and Ryō Tanaka was the sound director. Glovision produced the sound, and King Records produced the music.

Triple Booking, the unit formed by cast members Yōko Hikasa, Sayuri Yahagi, and Satomi Satou, performed the film's theme song "Seishun Non-Fiction" (Adolescent Non-Fiction).

The cast, who returned from the previous two seasons and various OVAs, includes:

The anime project is celebrating the manga's 10th anniversary and the television anime's seventh anniversary.

Seitokai Yakuindomo centers around Ōsai Academy, a former all-girls private high school that was integrated for both genders. The student body is split between 524 girls and 28 boys. Takatoshi Tsuda is pushed into becoming the vice-president of the student council, where he is the lone male member surrounded by girls.

The slice-of-life comedy story already inspired two television anime seasons, original video anime projects, and several previous anime DVDs bundled with the manga.

The 12th and 13th manga volumes both bundled OVAs when they shipped in September 2015 and April 2016, respectively. The 14th volume also bundled an OVA when it shipped in December.
