posted on by Karen Ressler
1st episode to launch on PlayStation Store on September 26

Visual effects and virtual reality company Digital Domain announced on the U.S. PlayStation blog on Tuesday that it will release a cinematic VR experience titled DreamWorks Voltron VR Chronicles. The 360° VR experience will have several episodes, and the first episode, "Seeds of Corruption," will be available on the PlayStation Store on September 26.

Users will take on the role of Lance, pilot of the Blue Lion from DreamWorks Voltron: Legendary Defender. Digital Domain describes to story of the first episode:

When Lance discovers the remains of a lost alien race deep within enemy space, he releases an unstoppable force that threatens to corrupt the Paladins' control over both their Lions and Voltron. Jumping into the heart of the adventure, you must overcome the corrupt force and relentless threat of Zarkon as you struggle to solve the ancient mystery and fight your way to victory.

Digital Domain is developing the experience in collaboration with Universal Brand Development. The voice actors from the original show are also voicing the characters in the experience.

DreamWorks Voltron: Legendary Defender is a reimagining of the 1984-1985 Voltron project, which was adapted from two Toei Animation robot anime: King of Beasts Golion and Armored Fleet Dairugger XV. The show's 11-episode first season premiered on Netflix in June 2016. The 13-episode second season premiered on Netflix on January 20, and the seven-episode third season premiered on August 4. A fourth season will premiere in October.

Update: The experience will also be available on Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.
