2D fighting game for PS4, Xbox One, PC arrives in February 2018

Bandai Namco Entertainment America began streaming a new character introduction trailer for the Dragon Ball FighterZ fighting game on Tuesday. The video previews Gohan as a playable character.

Bandai Namco Entertainment and Arc System Works' game is adding an original playable character designed by Akira Toriyama named Android 21, who is described as a scientist possessing intelligence rivaling Dr. Gero.

Bandai Namco Entertainment will release the three-versus-three fighting game on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Bandai Namco Entertainment America and Europe will release a "CollectorZ Edition" that will include an Goku statue, three art boards, and steelbook packaging. People who pre-order the game in Europe and North America will get an unlock code for Super Saiyan Blue Goku and Super Saiyan Blue Vegeta, and two lobby avatars.

The game is slated for release in February 2018. A closed beta for the game ran in September.

Bandai Namco Entertainment America describes the game:

Arc System Works delivers an explosive, action-packed game that combines classic 2D fighting with advanced 3D character models that look and feel as if they are ripped straight out of the DRAGON BALL series.

Bandai Namco Entertainment teases the game's story:

With the resurrection of Android 16 and the invasion of the mysterious army corps, the super warriors starts to fall. What is happening?

In addition to Gohan, playable characters include Goku, Teen Gohan, Vegeta, Future Trunks, Freeza, Cell, Krillin, Piccolo, Android 18 (with Android 17), Android 16, Yamcha, Tien Shinhan (with Chiaotzu), and Majin Buu.

Disclosure: Bandai Namco Filmworks Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Bandai Namco Holdings Inc., is a non-controlling, minority shareholder in Anime News Network Inc.
