Pokémon GO Game Adds AR+ Functionality

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda
New feature also introduces new mechanics

Niantic announced on Wednesday that it has added AR+ functionality for the iOS version of its Pokémon GO smartphone game. The feature is available only on iPhone 6s and newer models. The new feature shows Pokémon in fixed points in space, and allows players to view them from different perspectives as they travel.

The feature also enables new mechanics, with Pokémon now having an "Awareness" meter that goes up as the player approaches the Pokémon. If the meter reaches a certain point, the Pokémon will run away, and the player will not be able to catch it. Players who are able to get close to Pokémon before catching them will get an "Expert Handler Bonus" that will increase the chance of Great and Excellent Throw bonuses, and awards more XP and Stardust.

The Pokémon GO app launched in select countries including the United States in July 2016, and has since launched in more than 50 countries.
