Macross Delta Film's Teaser Trailer Previews Walküre's New Song

Compilation film to open February 9 in Japan

The official Macross website posted a one-minute trailer for the Gekijō-ban Macross Delta: Gekijō no Walkūre (Macross Delta the Movie: Passionate Walkūre) compilation film on Friday. The video previews Walküre's new song "Walküre wa Uragiranai" (Walküre Does not Betray).

The film will open on February 9, 2018. The terms for "theater" and "passion" in the title are homonyms in Japanese — "gekijō." The film will recompile scenes from the television anime with new scenes to tell a different story, to maximize the storytelling potential of the shorter runtime but larger medium. It will have at least one new song and enhanced battle sequences.

The previously revealed teaser visual (pictured right) by the anime's character designer Chisato Mita (CAPCOM) features a previously unseen, armor-equipped variable fighter. The visual also depicts the previously seen VF-31 Siegfried variable fighters for four of the five pilots in the anime's main Delta variable fighter unit (Chuck, Messer, Mirage, and Hayate) — but not Delta's leader, Arad.

The franchise is also receiving a new television anime series in 2018 to commemorate the anniversary.

The 26-episode Macross Delta television anime series ran from April to September 2016, after a preview of the first episode in 2015.

Macross Delta has also inspired several manga series and a novel. The in-story idol unit Walküre also performs as an idol unit in real life, and the group has held several live events. The group's first album won the Animation Album of the Year award for the Recording Industry Association of Japan's (RIAJ) Japan Gold Disc Awards for 2017.
