KAT-TUN Group Resumes Activities in January
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
The three-member boy band KAT-TUN announced on Sunday that they will resume their group activities in 2018. The group will perform the theme song "Ask yourself" for the FINAL CUT drama premiering on January 9. The show stars group member Kazuya Kamenashi. The group will also host a performance at the Tokyo Dome in April.
The group went on hiatus starting in May 2016 to "recharge," and the individual members planned to focus on their solo careers during the hiatus.
KAT-TUN celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2016, and they released their first best album KAT-TUN 10TH ANNIVERSARY BEST "10Ks!" in March 2016.
KAT-TUN performed the opening theme song for the second season of The File of Young Kindaichi Returns, and group member Kazuya Kamenashi previously played the titular character in a 2005 live-action special.
The group debuted in 2006 with six members, but Jin Akanishi left the band in 2010 and Koki Tanaka left in 2013. Junnosuke Taguchi left the band in March 2016. The remaining members include Kamenashi, Tatsuya Ueda, and Yūichi Nakamaru.
Tanaka was arrested in May for suspicion of marijuana possession. Tanaka denied the suspicion, claiming the marijuana authorities found was not his. He later tested positive for marijuana use. Tanaka and his current rock band INKT halted all of their scheduled activities, concerts, and industry work starting on May 25.
