Pokémon GO Game Adds Kyogre, Announces Community Day Events

Game will no longer support devices that cannot upgrade to iOS 11 starting on February 28

Niantic announced on Friday that it has added the Pokémon Kyogre to its Pokémon GO smartphone game. The Pokémon will only be available until 4:00 p.m. EST on February 14.

Niantic also announced on January 9 that the game's iOS version will no longer support devices that cannot upgrade to iOS 11, including iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c models, due to the implementation of new features in the game that will require iOS 11 to function. The change will take effect on February 28. Niantic is providing a list of devices that will no longer be supported.

Niantic has also announced "Community Day," a monthly worldwide event that will feature a special Pokémon available around the world for just a few hours on that day. The Pokémon will also have an exclusive move. The first Community Day will be on January 20 and will feature Pikachu with the exclusive move Surf.

Niantic added Groudon last month. The Pokémon was only available until Monday.

The Pokémon GO app launched in select countries including the United States in July 2016.
