Franchise also gets mook, fanbook as part of "Settlement of Affairs Project 2018"

This year's 10th issue of Shueisha's Weekly Shonen Jump magazine revealed on Monday that Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama manga is launching a project titled "Settlement of Affairs Project 2018." The project includes a new novel in the 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei (Class 3-Z's Teacher Ginpachi) spinoff series.

Tomohito Ōsaki is again writing the new novel. Shueisha will reveal more information about the novel's release date at a later date. Ōsaki previously wrote seven novels between 2006-2013. The novels feature a parody where protagonist Gintoki Sakata is a high school teacher named Ginpachi. The new novel's announcement teases that "Takasugi-kun" will return.

The "Settlement of Affairs Project 2018" project also includes the second live-action film that will open on August 17, a "mook" that is in development, and an official fanbook that is in development. In addition, Sorachi's first art exhibition is traveling to Nagano.

Sorachi began the manga in 2004, and the series celebrated its 14th anniversary on Monday. Viz Media published the first 23 volumes in English. Shueisha published the manga's 71st volume on December 4. The manga entered its final arc in July 2016, and reached the climax of the arc on Monday.

The current anime series premiered on October 1, and began with the "Porori Arc" story. The anime began adapting the "Silver Soul" arc, the final arc of the manga, on January 7. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan.

Update on April 21: Shueisha announced on April 16 that the new novel is titled Gintama Kaettekita: 3-Nen Z-Gumi Ginpachi-Sensei Motto Returns: Reiketsu Kōha Takasugi-kun (Gintama Returns: Class 3-Z's Teacher Ginpachi Returns Even More: Coldblooded and Tough Takasugi), and it will ship on June 4.
