Pony Canyon began streaming a new promotional video for the original video anime of Hiromi Takashima's Kase-san and Morning Glories (Asagao to Kase-san) manga on Wednesday. The video previews the anime's theme song "Asu e no Tobira" (Door to Tomorrow) by the characters Yui Yamada (as voiced by Minami Takahashi) and Tomoka Kase (Ayane Sakura). The song is a cover of the 2003 song of the same name by I WiSH.

The anime's website also unveiled a new main visual:

The manga follows a romance between "the clumsy, flower-adoring Yamada and the exuberant Kase-san, their school's track and field star." Seven Seas Entertainment is releasing the manga in North America, and it describes the story:

Yamada may be shy and rather clumsy, but the flower gardens at her school have always brought her happiness. Suddenly, a different sort of beauty catches her eye—the vivacious track star, Kase-san. Although the two girls don't seem to have much in common, they soon start a romance where each must learn an important lesson in tending their budding relationship. Can the two girls, so different from each other, learn how to make their first love blossom?

The cast stars Minami Takahashi as Yui Yamada, and Ayane Sakura as Tomoka Kase. The rest of the cast includes:

The new anime's staff remains mostly the same from the staff who worked on the five-minute animated clip of the manga that debuted in May. Kazuyuki Hashimoto (Cowboy Bebop, Summer Wars, Mai Mai Miracle) is replacing Yuka Hirama as art director, with Hirama now credited for concept boards. rionos is credited for music.

In December, the website posted a different video to reveal the anime's debut date of June 9 in theaters in Japan.

The latest volume of the manga, Sakura to Kase-san, will ship around May 20 in a special edition with a newly recorded drama CD. Like the anime, the 18-minute drama stars Takahashi, Sakura, and Kotobuki in their respective roles. The CD will tell a story from the fourth manga volume ("Ryokka-Iin to Kase-san" or Kase-san and... the Tree-Planting Committee Member) before the couple met, when Kase-san happened to spot Yamada.

The Pony Canyon booth at AnimeJapan 2018 will host a stage event on March 25 from 10:30 to 11:00 a.m. Takahashi, Sakura, and Kido will appear at the event. People can apply for seats at the stage event in advance by buying the Kase-san and Morning Glories Nakayoshi SD metal badge set of three from Canime:

Takashima serialized Kase-san and... in Shinshokan's yuri manga anthology Hirari until the magazine ceased publication in 2014. The series is ongoing on Shinshokan's Web Wings online manga platform. The manga began serializing in the LINE Manga app in March.

Shinshokan published Kase-san and Morning Glories (Asagao to Kase-san) in 2012, followed by Obentō to Kase-san. (Kase-san and Ben-To) in 2012, Shortcake to Kase-san. (Kase-san and Shortcake; pictured right) in 2015, and Apron to Kase-san. (Kase-san and Apron) on July 25.

Seven Seas Entertainment released Kase-san and Morning Glories on February 28 and Kase-san and Ben-To on May 23. The company published Kase-san and Shortcake on September 12.
