Detective Conan's Kōjin Ochi directs Yumeta Company anime of Chinese comic

The game company Success announced the staff and 2018 broadcast premiere for the anime of Guang Xian Jun's Chinese comic Voice of Fox (Hu Li Zhi Sheng or Kori no Koe) at AnimeJapan on Thursday. Success is co-producing with the restructured Yumeta Company and the Chinese video streaming site iQIYI. (iQIYI previously listed Tezuka Productions in its collaboration to produce Voice of Fox.)

Kōjin Ochi (Detective Conan, La Corda D'Oro - primo passo, Samurai Warriors) is directing the anime, and Yoshimi Narita (Yes! Precure 5, Kemeko Deluxe!, Saint Seiya Omega) is in charge of series scripts. Aki Tsunaki (Harukanaru Toki no Naka de: Maihitoyo, Chōyaku Hyakunin Isshu: Uta Koi, Samurai Warriors) is designing the characters, and Rie Nishimura is designing the props.

Shiori Shiwa (Kusanagi) is in charge of art design, and Hatsumi Kumano and Saho Yamane (Kusanagi) are directing the art. Yoriko Matsumori is the color key artist. Shinya Matsuzaki is the director of photography, and Michi Takigawa (REAL-T) is editing. Minami Nozaki is composing the music, and Hiromi Kikuta (Rakuonsha) is directing the sound at Toei Audio Visual Art Center with sound effects by Takahisa Ishino (Chura Sound).

Xiang-Dong Liu is planning the project, and Tagei Takamoto and Satoshi Yamaguchi are producing. Atsushi Urushiyama is the animation producer, and Hiroshi Tsubai is the visual director.

The anime's tagline is, "I will stand at the top of the entertainment world. I will kill myself and sing as a shadow …"

The plot of the Chinese comic is about a poor but talented high school boy named Hu Li (whose name is pronounced very similarly to the term for "fox" in Chinese). He is a "ghost" singer/songwriter for the popular and narcissistic boy idol Kong Que (pronounced very similarly to "peacock" in Chinese), who is very handsome but can barely sing. Hu always wear a fox mask to hide his large facial scar caused by a traffic accident. He also uses a screen name "Mr. Fox" to publish his music online.

Kori no Koe was serialized in the magazine 壹周漫画 (7-Day Comic) between June 2015 and September 2016, and contains 24 chapters. A second series started from May 2017, but went on hiatus with only one chapter. The author has shifted her work to an ongoing series Rhapsody of Mulan.

The collaborations are part of a larger move by iQIYI to produce animated titles, with the objective of being a production base for the Chinese animation industry. As of last year, another animated project based on Ma Boyong's Whales of Four Seas was also slated for 2018, and iQIYI was also planning an adaptation of The Demonic King Chases His Wife online novel.
