Liz and the Blue Bird Film's Music Trailer, Short Videos Streamed

Sound! Euphonium film focusing on Mizore, Nozomi opened on April 21

Kyoto Animation began streaming a music promotional video and six short promotional videos over the past four days for for Liz to Aoitori (Liz und ein Blauer Vogel or Liz and the Blue Bird), the first of two planned all-new anime films for the Sound! Euphonium franchise. The music promotional video previews the film's theme song "Songbirds" by Homecomings.

The first short promotional video focuses on oboist Mizore.

The second short promotional video focuses on flutist Nozomi.

The third short promotional video focuses on trumpeter Yūko and euphonist Natsuki, the band's new respective president and vice president (after Haruka and Asuka graduate from the anime's second season). Yūko, Natsuki, Mizore and Nozomi all graduated from Minami Junior High School.

The fourth short promotional video focuses on the "Kitauji Quartet," the group of four students that were the focus of much of the first two seasons. The group consists of euphonist Kumiko, trumpeter Reina, tubist Hazuki, and double bassist Sapphire.

The fifth short promotional video focuses on Ririka Kenzaki, the band's new freshman oboist.

The sixth short promotional video focuses on the Kitauji High School Concert Band as a whole.

Kyoto Animation also began streaming a third behind-the scenes video for the film. In the video, instrument animator Hiroyuki Takahashi draws Mizore's oboe.

The film opened in Japan on Saturday, April 21. The film ranked #11 and earned 53,573,900 yen (about US$492,400) in its opening weekend. The film will screen out of competition at this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

The film tells a new story of third-year students Nozomi Kasaki and Mizore Yoroizuka.

Naoko Yamada (K-ON!, A Silent Voice) directed the film off scripts by Reiko Yoshida (K-ON!, Yowamushi Pedal). Futoshi Nishiya (A Silent Voice, Free!, episode animation director for both television anime seasons), returned to design the characters. Mutsuo Shinohara (A Silent Voice, Clannad) returned as art director. kensuke ushio (A Silent Voice, Space Dandy) composed the music.

The second planned film will tell the story of Kumiko Ōmae and others as second-year students. Tatsuya Ishihara (both seasons of Sound! Euphonium) is directing that film.
