Asobi Asobase Anime's Theme Song Artists, Original Anime DVD Revealed

Main trio performs opening, ending songs; original anime DVD bundled with manga's 7th volume

The official website of the television anime of Rin Suzukawa's Asobi Asobase (Play and Let Play) manga revealed the anime's theme song artists on Friday. Hina Kino, Rika Nagae, and Konomi Kohara will perform the opening and ending theme songs as their respective characters. The opening theme song is titled "Suripisu," while the ending theme song is titlted "Inkyainparusu."

This year's 12th issue of Hakusensha's Young Animal magazine also revealed on Friday that the seventh volume of the manga will bundle an original anime DVD. The magazine did not reveal the release date of the volume.

The anime will premiere on AT-X, Tokyo MX, KBS Kyoto, and BS11 on July 8, followed by Sun TV and TV Aichi on July 10.

The cast includes:

Hina Kino as Hanako Honda, an outgoing girl who has good grades, is good at sports, and has a bright personality. Unfortunately, she actually isn't too smart. She aspired to an average, normal life, and to that end, she joined the soft tennis team in middle school, but it seems she doesn't have what it takes to be a plain "normie" just yet.

Rika Nagae as Olivia, a blonde, blue-eyed girl who transferred into Hanako and Kasumi's middle school. While both of her parents are not Japanese, and she looks outwardly like she might be a native English speaker, the truth is that she was born and raised in Japan, and can barely speak English.

Konomi Kohara as Kasumi Nomura, a girl who looks the part of an honors student, staying in the classroom after classes are over to read books, but in truth is so hopelessly bad at English no matter how much she studies. She asks Olivia to teach her English to finally overcome her language arch-nemesis. She has big breasts that are not typical of a middle schooler.

  • Ryotaro Okiayu as Maeda
  • Honoka Inoue as Student Council President
  • Mai Kanazawa as Oka-san
  • Megumi Toda as Agrippa
  • Aoi Yūki as Tsugumi Aozora
  • Ryōko Maekawa as Higuchi-sensei
  • Yasunori Masutani as Sainan-sensei
  • Mitsuki Saiga as Takayanagi-sensei
  • Eishin Fudemura as Kentarō Honda
  • Maki Izawa as Narrator

Seiji Kishi (Persona 4: The Animation, Danganronpa The Animation, Tsukigakirei) is directing the anime at Lerche, with Yū Kinome (School-Live, Scum's Wish episode director) as assistant director. Yuuko Kakihara (Persona 4: The Animation, Chihayafuru 2, Tsukigakirei) is in charge of series scripts. Keiko Kurosawa (Re:␣Hamatora, Scum's Wish, Konohana Kitan) is designing the characters. KUSANAGI (Non Non Biyori, Welcome to THE SPACE SHOW, Princess Principal) is drawing the backgrounds. Morita Editing Room is handling the editing. Satoki Iida (Angel Beats!, Persona 4: The Animation, Tsukigakirei) is the sound director, and Masato Kōda (Arpeggio of Blue Steel - Ars Nova, KonoSuba, Knight's & Magic) is composing the music. Yūji Higa (Magical Girl Raising Project, Scum's Wish, Konohana Kitan) is the animation producer.

The "surreal gag" comedy manga revolves around three classmates who play traditional hand games, board games, and card games. Kasumi is smart, serious, and is good at games, but hates them because she always lost to her older sister and was forced to do chores while growing up. She is also extremely bad at English. Olivia is a beautiful girl of American descent, but was raised in Japan, and she only pretends to be bad at Japanese. Hanako is a girl who wears her hair in pigtails and has a bright personality, but still can't manage to become the kind of normal person she wants to be.

Suzukawa launched the manga on Hakusensha's Young Animal Densi manga website in 2015, but moved it to the Manga Park website in August 2017 after Young Animal Densi shut down. Hakusensha published the manga's fifth volume on January 26, and will publish the sixth volume on June 29.
