Asia Animation Partners Declares Bankruptcy After Executive's Passing

Credit research company Tokyo Shoko Research (TSR) reported on Tuesday that anime production studio Asia Animation Partners filed for bankruptcy in a Tokyo district court on June 8. The studio has 16.5 million yen (about US$149,100) in liabilities to 11 creditors.
Studio Kuma (Bizarre Cage, Timing, Izumo: Flash of a Brave Sword) established the Asia Animation Partners subsidiary to handle photography and effects work. TSR reported that Studio Kuma president and Asia Animation Partners board member Shōji Sumibe passed away in December, after which Studio Kuma transferred all work to another studio and ceased business operations.
Asia Animation Partners is most recently credited for production on Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki Dai-4-Ki (pictured at right), the fourth OVA in the Tenchi Muyo! Ryo Ohki OVA series.
