Manga about girls' magic school launches this week

Akihito Yoshitomi is launching a new manga titled Suginami Kuritsu Mahō Jogakuen Heiwaiji-bu (Suginami City Magic Girls' Academy Peacekeeping Club) on Ohta Publishing's Ohta Web Comic website on Tuesday.

The manga begins with a new school year at a school exclusively for girls with magic powers. While the academy covers elementary school, middle school, and high school, Kaede Shinohara is transferring as a first-year in high school. Under the school's "sisters" system, peacekeeping club president Mai Kiritani is assigned as Kaede's older sister and guides her around the school. Kaede ends up at the peacekeeping club, which turns out to be a hangout for students who aren't doing well in school.

Yoshitomi drew his Eat-Man manga from 1996 to 2002, then launched Eat-Man The Main Dish in Kodansha's Monthly Shonen Sirius in May 2014. The manga entered its final arc with the fourth compiled volume, which shipped on June 8.

The original manga received anime adaptations in 1997 and 1998. Bandai Entertainment previously released Eat-Man `98 on DVD with an English dub, and Discotek Media released both anime on subtitle-only DVD.

ADV Manga published Yoshitomi's Ray manga, while Section23 Films released the Ray television anime and the Blue Drop anime inspired by Yoshitomi's manga of the same name. Yoshitomi also recently drew Cyborg 009 Vs. Devilman: Breakdown, the manga adaptation of the Cyborg 009 Vs. Devilman crossover anime. The one compiled volume shipped in April 2016.
