Live-action film wins audience award at Swiss film festival

This year's 16th issue of Kodansha's Evening magazine announced on Tuesday that Daruma Matsuura's Kasane manga will end in the next issue on August 10.

In related news, the live-action film adaptation had its first screening at the Neuchâtel International Fantastic Film Festival in Switzerland and won the audience award in the international competition category.

Matsuura launched the ongoing series in Kodansha's Evening magazine in April 2013 as her debut work, and Kodansha published the 13th compiled volume on April 23. The manga was nominated for the Kodansha Manga Awards and the Manga Taisho Award in 2015.

Kodansha Comics began releasing the manga digitally in English last year. The company describes the story:

Kasane's face is so hideous, you couldn't bear to look twice at her—and her ugliness has forced her to walk a harsh path in life. But her mother left her something: a tube of lipstick. The power of this lipstick will change everything about her downtrodden life.

The film adaptation will open in Japan on September 7.
