Even takes place in San Jose, California on September 1-3

Crunchyroll announced this week that it will host Dragon Quest series creator Yuji Horii and Dragon Ball Z voice actor Ryō Horikawa at its Crunchyroll Expo event this year.

Horii will have a dedicated panel and autograph sessions, and he will also serve as a guest judge for the Dragon Quest category of the event's Cosplay Masquerade.

Horii was born in 1954 in Hyogo, Japan, and he won a game programming contest from Enix in 1982. The first Dragon Quest game debuted in 1986. The collective Dragon Quest series has since sold 76 million units worldwide. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will launch for both PS4 and PC via Steam in North America and Europe on September 4.

Horikawa began his voice acting career in 1984 with the Yume Senshi Wingman anime, playing the character Hirono Kenta. He is perhaps most famous for voicing the character Vegeta in the Dragon Ball franchise. His other voice roles include Detective Conan's Heiji Hattori, Saint Seiya's Andromeda Shun, Legend of the Galactic Heroes' Reinhard von Lohengramm, Mobile Suit Gundam 0083's Kou Uraki, and Yū Yū Hakusho's Karasu.

Crunchyroll Expo launched last year. This year's event will be held at the San Jose Convention Center in California from September 1-3. The convention will also host anime writer Makoto Uezu (Scum's Wish, Boruto, KONOSUBA, Yuki Yuna Is a Hero), The Legend of Zelda manga author duo Akira Himekawa, No Game, No Life anime director Atsuko Ishizuka, voice actress Yūko Ōno, sound director and producer Ryousuke Naya, and Bananya creator Nagano Akiyo. In addition, the event will host DARLING in the FRANXX producer Yūichi Fukushima, director Atsushi Nishigori, and character designer Masayoshi Tanaka.

The event will host the worldwide English dub premiere of the first episode of the The Rising of The Shield Hero anime as well as a premiere screening of the first two episodes of Double Decker! Doug & Kirill. The event will also screen the premiere of the first episode of RErideD: Derrida, who leaps through time with character designer Yoshitoshi ABe and producer Rie Ogura in attendance. Crunchyroll Expo is collaborating with GKIDS to screen 15 animated features at the festival, including Mary and The Witch's Flower, Fireworks, Lu over the wall, Napping Princess, Patema Inverted, and several Studio Ghibli films.
