Toei Animation aims to strengthen digital anime production, foreign business

Toei Animation (One Piece, Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon) announced on Wednesday that it is entering a capital business partnership with Dandelion Animation Studio (3DCG animation for Haikyu!!, Miss Hokusai, The Empire of Corpses) with a goal of strengthening digital anime production. Through the partnership, Toei Animation aims to strengthen its business in the digital content production sphere and to offer more digital anime in the foreign market.

Dandelion Animation Studio was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Tokyo. The company has recently focused on digital art, and it has had broad involvement in the anime industry through anime planning and production, as well as intellectual property. The company is known for character- and child-oriented content, which is also a focus for Toei Animation.

Dandelion partnered with the Shenzhen, China-based Da-Jiang Innovations (DJI) drone manufacturing company to produce the RoboMasters The Animated Series project in 2017.

Toei Animation was established in 1956. The company has produced 238 theatrical works and 218 television works for a total of 12,479 episodes of content. The company has had rapid growth in recent years through involvement in foreign and licensing business. Toei Animation expects sales of 48 billion yen (about US$4.35 billion) for the fiscal year ending in March 2019.

Sola Digital Arts, Galaxy Graphics, and Toei Animation announced in July that they jointly invested in a new CG animation studio named Tenh Animation Magic. The company itself was established on October 10, and the business began operations in July.
