Valkyria Chronicles Game Gets Western Switch Release on October 16

Remastered version of original PS3 game launched on PS4 in the West on May 17

Sega announced at its panel at the PAX West event on Saturday that it will release the original Valkyria Chronicles game on the Nintendo Switch in the West on October 16. The game will launch for the Switch in Japan on September 27, alongside the Nintendo Switch release of Valkyria Chronicles 4 in Japan.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 will launch on September 25 in the Americas, Europe, and Australia. The game will be available for PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.

According to video game news website Game Informer, Sega stated that its release of Valkyria Chronicles on Switch is not officially the Valkyria Chronicles Remastered game released for PlayStation 4 earlier this year.

The original Valkyria Chronicles games are set in a fictional reimagining of 1930s Europe. In the first game, the Empire invades the neutral nation of Gallia to claim its resources. The game focuses on the soldiers of Squad 7, a platoon in the Gallian conscript Militia, who fight back the invading Empire. The second and third games in the series focus on different Gallian military units.

Sega released the first Valkyria Chronicles game on the PlayStation 3 in Japan, Europe, and North America in 2008, and released Valkyria Chronicles II on the PlayStation Portable in 2010. Sega also released Valkyria Chronicles III on the PSP in 2011, but did not release it in the West. Sega released Valkyria Chronicles on the PC in November 2014.

Valkyria Chronicles Remastered shipped in Japan on February 10 for the PlayStation 4. The game then shipped for PS4 in the Americas and Europe on May 17.

The first game in the series inspired a 26-episode television anime series by A-1 Pictures in 2009. The third game inspired a two-episode original video animation in 2011.
