La Corda d'Oro Octave Game Launches in Japan on February 14

Game originally announced for smartphones now slated for PC, PS Vita, Switch

The official Twitter account for the La Corda d'Oro Octave (Kin-iro no Corda Octave) game from Koei Tecmo Games' Ruby Party brand revealed on Saturday that the game will launch for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation Vita, and PC (via Steam) on February 14, 2019. The game will launch digitally for all three consoles and will have a physical version for Switch and PS Vita.

Ruby Party originally announced the project in September 2016 as the franchise's first smartphone game, with a planned 2017 release. Ruby Party then announced in May that the game was slated for consoles.

At the time of its announcement, the game's story was set in a world where music can be blessed by fairies, and can perform miracles. The story begins on Harmonia, an island between the human and fairy worlds. The island's symbolic bell guides six young musicians to the island. There, the musicians confront a new environment, as well as the "music of the fairies." The characters are all from previous installments of the game series.

The game's cast upon announcement included:

The latest major game in the series is La Corda d'Oro 4, which shipped in Japan in February 2016, and continued the story from the La Corda D'Oro 3 game. The Kin-iro no Corda 2ff (La Corda D'Oro 2 Fortissimo) PlayStation Vita remake of the original Kin-iro no Corda 2f (La Corda D'Oro 2 Forte) PlayStation Portable game shipped in December 2017. Koei Tecmo Games will also release PlayStation Vita ports of Kin-iro no Corda 3 Full Voice Special (La Corda D'Oro 3 Full Voice Special) and all three Kin-iro no Corda 3 Another Sky (La Corda D'Oro 3 Another Sky) games in Japan on September 20.

The franchise inspired a 26-episode television anime series in 2006, and a two-episode television special sequel, La Corda D'Oro ~secondo passo~, aired in spring of 2009. A third anime, La Corda d'Oro Blue Sky, premiered in 2014 and ran for 12 episodes. Crunchyroll streamed all three anime and Sentai Filmworks released La Corda d'Oro and La Corda d'Oro Blue Sky in North America.
