The official website for the television anime of Aka Akasaka's Kaguya-sama: Love is War (Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai - Tensai-tachi no Renai Zunōsen) manga revealed the anime's staff, January premiere, and a new visual on Wednesday

The anime will premiere in January on MBS, Tokyo MX, BS11, Gunma TV, Tochigi TV, Chukyo TV, and TV Niigata.

Mamoru Hatakeyama (Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū, Record of Grancrest War, Sankarea: Undying Love) is directing the anime at A-1 Pictures. Yasuhiro Nakanishi (Shiawase Restaurant, Digimon Adventure tri.- Chapter 4: Loss) is supervising the series scripts. Yūko Yahiro (Diabolik Lovers, Katana Maidens: Toji no Miko) is the character designer, and is also credited as chief animation director alongside Hiroshi Yakou and Yūko Hariba.

Viz Media is publishing the manga in English, and it describes the story:

All's fair when love is war!

Two geniuses. Two brains. Two hearts. One battle. Who will confess their love first…?!

Kaguya Shinomiya and Miyūki Shirogane are two geniuses who stand atop their prestigious academy's student council, making them the elite among elite. But it's lonely at the top and each has fallen for the other. There's just one huge problem standing in the way of lovey-dovey bliss—they're both too prideful to be the first to confess their romantic feelings and thus become the “loser” in the competition of love! And so begins their daily schemes to force the other to confess first!

Akasaka began the series in Shueisha's Miracle Jump magazine in May 2015 but it moved to Young Jump in March 2016. The 11th compiled volume will ship on Thursday. A special side story ran in the debut issue of Young Jump Gold in May 2017. When the 10th volume shipped on June 19, the series had more than 2.4 million copies, including the digital version of the manga. Viz Media published the fourth volume on September 4.

The manga is inspiring two spinoff manga. Kaguya-sama wa Kokurasetai: Dōjin-ban (Kaguya-sama: Love is War - Dōjin Edition) by Shinta Sakayama launched in Shueisha's Tonari no Young Jump website on June 14. Kaguya-sama o Kataritai (I Want to Talk With Kaguya) by G3 Ida launched in Young Jump on July 26.
