Persona 5 the Animation Gets Dark Sun TV Special at the End of 2018

posted on by Egan Loo
Announced at the end of TV anime series

The final episode of the PERSONA 5 the Animation television anime series ended on Sunday with an announcement that a Dark Sun anime special will air at the end of 2018. The airing date will differ by region, and the staff will provide the story introduction and other details in the future. (The trailer video announcing the special on the anime's official website is region-locked to Japan. A region-free version is below.)

Aniplex of America describes the story of the television series based on Atlus' role-playing game:

Ren Amamiya is about to enter his second year after transferring to Shujin Academy in Tokyo.

Following a particular incident, his Persona awakens, and together with his friends they form the “Phantom Thieves of Hearts” to reform hearts of corrupt adults by stealing the source of their distorted desires.

Meanwhile, bizarre and inexplicable crimes have been popping up one after another...

Living an ordinary high school life in Tokyo during the day, the group maneuvers the metropolitan city as Phantom Thieves after hours.

Let the curtain rise for this grand, picaresque story!

Masashi Ishihama (From the New World, Kamichu!) directed PERSONA 5 the Animation series, and the game franchise's producer Katsura Hashino is credited with the original story concept. Satomi Ishikawa (Convenience Store Boy Friends) adapted Shigenori Soejima's original game character designs for animation. Kazuma Kaneko is credited for having drawn the original demon designs from the game. Shinichi Inotsume (Persona 5 the Animation -The Day Breakers-, Hayate the Combat Butler, Sket Dance) was in charge of the series scripts. Shoji Meguro returned from the game to compose the anime's music. Lyn performed the opening theme song "Break in to Break Out" and the ending theme song "Infinity."

The latest entry in the Persona role-playing game series shipped for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 in Japan on September 15, 2016. The game shipped in North America on April 4, 2017 after a delay. The game featured animation sequences from the Production I.G studio.

The earlier Persona 5 the Animation -The Day Breakers- television anime special by A-1 Pictures aired on September 3, 2016. The special recounts the prologue story of the young thief organization at the center of the game. Crunchyroll streamed the television special, and Aniplex of America released it on an import Blu-ray Disc of the Collector's Edition in February 2017.
