2019 Doraemon Film Reveals Title, Video, Visual, March 1 Debut

Shinnosuke Yakuwa directs Doraemon the Movie: Chronicle of the Moon Exploration

Staff revealed the 2019 Doraemon franchise film at a press event in Tokyo on Monday. Eiga Doraemon no Nobita no Getsumen Tansaki (Doraemon the Movie: Chronicle of the Moon Exploration), the franchise's 39th film, will open in Japan on March 1. The anime film's official website also revealed a special video to introduce the project, a teaser visual, cast, and staff.

 

  In addition to returning cast members, the cast will include: (Note: Romanizations of names not confirmed.)

Shinnosuke Yakuwa (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita and the Birth of Japan 2016, Doraemon the Movie: Nobita in the New Haunts of Evil - Peko and the Five Explore) is directing the film, which will be his first work directing from an original script. Naoki Prize-winning mystery author Midzuki Tsujimura (Tsunagu, Kagami no Kojō) is writing the script, and she is also writing a novel adaptation, which will debut on November 16. Dai Hirai is performing the theme song "The Gift."

Eiga Doraemon: Nobita no Takarajima (Doraemon the Movie: Nobita's Treasure Island), the Doraemon franchise's 38th film, opened on March 3. The film became the highest-grossing anime in the current 13-installment Doraemon film series after grossing more than 4.44 billion yen (about US$41.5 million) in 32 days. The anime had earned more than 4.88 billion yen (about US$45.58 million) and sold around 4,282,000 tickets as of April 8, becoming the film in the franchise to sell the most tickets so far.
