Video previews new fourth-generation Pokémon

Niantic announced on Tuesday that some Pokémon that originally appeared in the Sinnoh region in the Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl games are now available in the Pokémon GO smartphone game. The company also began streaming a video for the announcement, which features many new Sinnoh-region creatures.

Niantic revealed that, similar to past generations, the new Sinnoh Pokémon will begin appearing in waves in the game "over the next few weeks." The company has not confirmed which Sinnoh Pokémon are currently available in the game. The Pokémon Company International and Niantic announced last Tuesday that Sinnoh-region Pokémon would appear in the game "soon."

The all-new Mythical Pokémon Meltan will debut in the game this year. Players will have to send Pokémon to the Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee! Nintendo Switch games in order to get a Mystery Box to be able to obtain Meltan. The games will ship on November 16.

The game added the AR+ feature for Android devices last Wednesday. Mobile app data analysis organization Sensor Tower also reported on Wednesday that Pokémon GO earned US$84.8 million in September, and ranked #4 in revenue for that month among all apps. September was the game's highest-grossing month since November 2017, and represents an 89% improvement in revenue for the game since September 2017.

Niantic began adding third-generation Pokémon from the Hoenn region in December 2017, after first adding a few for a Halloween event.

The Pokémon GO app launched in select countries including the United States in July 2016.
