Gundam, Inuyasha Voice Actor Kouji Tsujitani Passes Away

Gurazeni: Money Pitch sound director suffered stroke on October 17

Voice actor Kouji Tsujitani passed away in Tokyo on October 17 due to a stroke. He was 56.

Tsujitani performed with fellow voice actor Fumihiko Tachiki as the new band Tachiki Fumihiko to BLUSEED for their debut performance on October 14. Tsujitani was reportedly in good health at the event. He suddenly collapsed at his home on October 17 and passed away the same day. Tsujitani's wife and voice actress Kumiko Watanabe and other close relatives attended a wake for Tsujitani on October 21, followed by a funeral on October 22.

Tsujitani was born in Kodaira, Tokyo in 1962. After graduating from Chiba Prefectural Akibo Senior High School, he attended Butai Geijutsu Gakuin in Tokyo, and he joined the Gekidan Tōen theatrical company in 1983. Tsujitani began voice acting in anime in 1988 and played Bernard "Bernie" Wiseman in Mobile Suit Gundam 0080: War in the Pocket in 1989. In the Gundam franchise, his other roles include Seabook Arno in Mobile Suit Gundam F91, Bernie Wiseman in Mobile Suit SD Gundam's Counterattack, and Knight Zeta in Mobile Suit SD Gundam: SD Gundam Legend. Tsujitani also voiced characters such as Miroku in Inuyasha, Tylor in The Irresponsible Captain Tylor, Kazuma Iwasaki in Stratos 4, Annote Itsuki in Yū Yū Hakusho, and Solomon in Blood+.

In recent years, Tsujitani also worked as a sound director. He served on anime such as Gurazeni: Money Pitch, Freezing, Fate/stay night, and Shōwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjū in that role.
