Ace Attorney Season 2 Anime Gets 1-Hour Prequel Special in January

Story set during Phoenix Wright's college years, Mia Fey's rookie years

The staff for the Ace Attorney Season 2 (Gyakuten Saiban ~Sono "Shinjitsu," Igiari!~ Season 2) anime revealed on Tuesday that the anime will receive a one-hour special that will air on January 19 at 5:30 p.m. The new special's story is set five years before the main story during the college years of protagonist Phoenix Wright/Ryūichi Naruhodō, when he stood in court as a defendant. The special will depict a love triangle, as well as the rookie years of Mia Fey/Chihiro Ayasato.

A similar story appeared in Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations, the third game in the series.

The second season premiered on October 6. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan, and Funimation will begin streaming an English dub on Tuesday.

Original game director Shu Takumi is collaborating on the anime. A-1 Pictures is again handling animation production, with returning staff members director Ayumu Watanabe, series writer Atsuhiro Tomioka, composer Kaoru Wada, and character designer and chief animation director Keiko Ōta. Yukiko Imai is serving as assistant director.

Tomohisa Yamashita perform the show's opening theme song "Never Lose." The artist halca performs the new anime's ending theme song "Starting Blue."

The first series premiered in April 2016 and covered the first two games in the series. Crunchyroll streamed the anime as it aired in Japan, and Funimation released the anime on home video in two parts in January and May.
