Live-Action Channel wa Sono Mama! Show Casts Takayuki Suzui

The staff of the live-action series adaptation of Noriko Sasaki's Channel wa Sono Mama! manga revealed on Wednesday that Takayuki Suzui has joined the show's cast as the president of Hokkaido☆TV, the television station where protagonist Hanako Yukimaru works.

The staff also revealed the roles for previously announced cast members Hiroyuki Morisaki, Shigeyuki Totsugi, and Takuma Otoo as Hanako's father, investigator, and farmer, respectively.

The show stars:

Kyōko Yoshine (live-action Kasane's titular character) as Hanako Yukimaru

Hiroki Iijima (Kamen Rider Ex-Aid's Emu Hōjō/Kamen Rider Ex-Aid) as Hajime Yamane

Kanako Miyashita as Maki Hanae

Taisei Shima from vocal unit NORD as Tetsutarō Hattori

Hikari Takihara from vocal unit NORD as Seiichi Tachibana

Takurō Osada as Hayato Kitagami

Yō Ōizumi as Seigi Kamahara, an original character for the series, and a representative of an agricultural non-profit organization.

Ken Yasuda as the head of the news department of Higuma TV, a rival of Hokkaido☆TV.

Other cast members include: Ayumu Saitō, Atsuo Ōuchi, Akira Ōtaka, Kimiko Jitsukawa, Hitoshi Fujio, and Toshie Negishi. Guest stars include Shigeru Izumiya, Roshiya Sakai, Tōkyō03, and Shinya Kawano.

The series will have five episodes and will air only on the HTB (Hokkaido Television Broadcasting Co., Ltd.) as a local broadcast starting in March 2019. The series will also stream only on Netflix.

The manga centers on Hanako Yukimaru, who is in her second year working at Hokkaido☆TV as a news reporter. For a report for the news at noon, she travels with a top reporter to a river bank with high water due to a heavy rain storm. The top reporter was supposed to broadcast a live report from the scene, but due to a falling accident, he hurts his leg. Hanako is asked to quickly do the live report in his place, but she hasn't prepared herself yet for such a thing. As a result, Hanako's first live broadcast turns into quite a scene. The manga then follows the lives of Hanako and her coworkers after this incident.

Katsuyuki Motohiro is the chief director for the series, and Tadahisa Fujimura is directing. Masamichi Ureshino is producing the show. Fujimura and Ureshino both worked as directors on the local HTB variety show Suiyō Dō Deshō (How do you like Wednesday?), which ran from 1996-2002.

The original manga ran in Big Comic Spirits from 2008 to 2013, and was produced in collaboration with Hokkaido Television Broadcasting Co., Ltd. Shogakukan published six compiled volumes for the manga. The series has more than 1 million copies in print.
