Black Lagoon's Rei Hiroe to Launch New Manga Next Spring

"Youth war drama" takes place on frontline of countries at war

The December issue of Shogakukan's Monthly Shonen Sunday magazine revealed on Monday that Rei Hiroe will launch a new manga series temporarily titled 341 Sentōdan (341 Combat Team) in spring 2019. The manga is part of the 10th anniversary celebrations for Monthly Shonen Sunday.

The "youth war drama" takes place on the chaotic frontline of countries at war. A certain person stands at the head of a combat team that is sweeping across the land. The story follows the strong and fleeting emotions of the young people whose lives are scattered on the battlefield.

Hiroe launched the Black Lagoon manga in Monthly Sunday GX in 2002. Shogakukan published the manga's 10th volume in May 2014, and will publish the manga's 11th volume on November 19. Viz Media publishes the manga in North America, and it released the 10th volume in April 2015.

The manga had resumed in May 2017 following a hiatus that began in early 2014, but then went on hiatus again in August.

Madhouse adapted the manga into two television anime series in 2006, and the Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail OVA in 2010. Geneon released both series on DVD in North America in 2007-2008, and Funimation re-released the series on DVD and Blu-ray Disc in 2012, and again in 2015.

Hiroe was also the original creator for the Re:CREATORS television anime series. He also provided the original character designs, and wrote and oversaw the scripts for the series. The 22-episode anime premiered in April 2017.
