Ensemble Stars! App Gets New Rhythm Game in 2019

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Main app will split into 2 versions with launch of rhythm game

Happy Elements K.K announced on Saturday that it will release a rhythm game for the Ensemble Stars! idol franchise in the second half of 2019. The new game will be a "new chapter" for the current Ensemble Stars! smartphone game, and the title of the app will change to Ensemble Stars! with the new launch.

After the launch of Ensemble Stars! the main app will split into two versions. The "Basic" version will allow players to continue playing the app as they always have, with the new chapter content. The "Music" version will feature the new rhythm game style of gameplay.

The original "idol-training produce game" launched in April 2015 for Android and May 2015 for iOS. The game takes place at a private boys' idol-training school with a history of turning out many great talents in show business. The protagonist is the school's lone female student who transfers to the school because of a special situation, and enters the school's producer department. Novelist Akira (Sasami-san@Ganbaranai) wrote the original scenario for the game. The game features eight different idol units and has a cast of more than 30 male voice actors.

The game has also inspired a series of stage play adaptations starting in June 2016, manga, novels, and CDs.

Happy Elements K.K had revealed an anime adaptation in 2015, and GENCO and Happy Elements had originally planned to release it in 2017. However, GENCO and Happy Elements announced in February 2017 that they were postponing the planned adaptation due to "various circumstances."

The relaunched television anime adaptation of the game will air in 2019. The studio david production (JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) is producing the animation. Satoru Kuwabara (Arte Refact) is producing the music, and Tatsuya Katō (APDREAM, Free! - Iwatobi Swim Club, Food Wars! Shokugeki no Soma, Fate/kaleid liner Prisma Illya) is composing the music. Novelist Akira is in charge of the series scripts. The cast members from the game are returning for the anime.
