Fuyumi Soryo Resumes Cesare Manga After 4-Year Hiatus

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Mars, ES creator's biographical work about Cesare Borgia launched in 2005

Manga creator Fuyumi Soryo resumed her CESARE - Il Creatore che ha distrutto historical manga in this year's 50th issue of Kodansha's Morning magazine on Thursday. Soryo will publish the manga in the magazine once a month.

Soryo launched the manga in Morning in 2005, and Kodansha published the 11th and most recent volume in January 2015. The manga has been on hiatus since October 2014. The biographical work tells the story of Cesare Borgia. Motoaki Hara supervises the manga.

Soryo published her Mars manga in Bessatsu Friend from 1996-2000, and Tokyopop published all 15 volumes of the manga and the Mars Gaiden prequel in 2002-2004. The manga inspired a Taiwanese drama series in 2004-2005. A 10-episode Japanese live-action drama adaptation premiered in January 2016 and a film concluding the story premiered in June 2016. Soryo also drew the manga ES (Eternal Sabbath), which Del Ray published in English.

Update: Soryo posted on her blog on November 7 that she plans to publish five chapters of the manga under the new schedule of publishing one chapter a month. She added she is still writing future chapters after that, but will probably launch those chapters sometime next year. Soryo stated the manga is entering the papal conclave storyline.
