Battle Spirits Franchise Gets New 3-Episode Anime in 2019

posted on by Karen Ressler

The official website for the Battle Spirits anime franchise announced on Wednesday that a new three-episode anime project is in production and is slated for 2019. The new project is a sequel to the Battle Spirits: Shōnen Gekiha Dan (2009-2010) and Battle Spirits: Brave (2010-2011) anime. The staff did not specify the length of the episodes.

Masaki Watanabe (Battle Spirits: Sword Eyes, Battle Spirits: Heroes) is directing the new anime at Bandai Namco Pictures, and Atsuhiro Tomioka is returning from Battle Spirits: Shōnen Gekiha Dan and Battle Spirits: Brave to write the scripts.

A tagline for the anime reads, "What happened next in the future Dan protected was..."

The Battle Spirits anime franchise launched with the 50-episode Battle Spirits: Shōnen Toppa Bashin series on September 7, 2008. The anime adapted Bandai's original trading card game, in which cards represent dragons, demons, birds, insects, and other spirits that the players can control in battles. Bandai imported the game to America in 2009.

The eighth and most recent anime series in the franchise, Battle Spirits Double Drive, aired for 51 episodes from April 2016 to March 2017.
