A-Kon Convention Announces Move to Dallas, Date Change

posted on by Karen Ressler
Convention comes under new ownership

The official Facebook page for Texas anime convention A-Kon announced on Wednesday that the convention is coming under new ownership. As part of the change, the convention will move from Fort Worth back to Dallas, and the dates will change from June 6-9 to June 27-30.

The staff announced that any hotels already booked for the old venue through A-Kon Hotels for Hope will be transferred to one of the new host hotels, and that Hotels for Hope will reach out to confirm details and rates. The staff have not yet announced a specific new venue.

Many comments on the Facebook post are from attendees who report booking hotels through means other than Hotels for Hope. A-Kon commented on one of the posts, "Unfortunately we have no control over bookings made outside of Hotels for Hope. You will have to contact the hotel to take care of cancelations. Please keep us posted if you have any issues and we will do what we can to help."

The convention will also implement an "A-Kon+" badge upgrade that will include a collector's edition badge mailed to the attendee, an item bag, and a chance to win access to bonus autograph sessions. Those who preregistered for the convention before January 15 will receive the upgrade for free.

Phoenix Entertainment has run the convention since 1990. The staff did not provide information on the new ownership.
