Shiro Amano Returns to Pen Kingdom Hearts III Manga (Updated)

The April issue of Square Enix's Monthly Shonen Gangan magazine revealed on Tuesday that Shiro Amano is returning to pen a manga adaptation of the Kingdom Hearts III game. The magazine did not state a specific debut date for the manga.

Amano is also drawing art for Tomoco Kanemaki's upcoming novelization of the game, as well as the Kingdom Hearts χ: Kimi to Keyblade no Monogatari novel also by Kanemaki.

Square Enix released the game on January 25 in Japan for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and on January 29 in the West. The Chinese-subtitled version of the game is slated to launch in Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines on May 23. A Korean-subtitled version is also planned for release.

The game has shipped more than 5 million copies worldwide, including digital sales. The game is now the fastest-selling title in the history of the franchise.

Amano has created manga adaptations for Square Enix's Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, Kingdom Hearts II, and Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days games. He also illustrated several novel adaptations for the franchise. North American publisher Tokyopop released all four volumes of Kingdom Hearts, both volumes of Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories, and two volumes of Kingdom Hearts II before the company shut down its North American publishing division in 2011.

Yen Press then licensed all four manga adaptations in 2013. The company has also released the Shiro Amano: The Artwork of Kingdom Hearts artbook and Kanemaki and Amano's Kingdom Hearts and Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories light novel series. Yen Press also released Kanemaki and Amano's Kingdom Hearts II, Kingdom Hearts: 358/2 Days, and Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep novels.

Update on 4/13/2019: The May issue of Monthly Shonen Gangan revealed on April 12 that the manga will start on the Gangan Online website on April 25. The manga will also have a special chapter in Monthly Shonen Gangan in its June issue on May 11. Source: Monthly Shonen Gangan May issue
