Kendo Kobayashi, Arata Furuta cast in Trigger, XFlag's original anime film

The official website for Studio Trigger and XFlag's original anime film Promare revealed more cast members, the film's May 24 theatrical opening, and new visuals on Wednesday.

The new cast members include:

Comedian Kendo Kobayashi plays Vinny, a mouse with a helmet that lives at the national firefighting service FDPP, and the mascot of Burning Rescue. It usually follows Lucia around.

Actor and writer Kazuki Nakashima's fellow Gekidan Shinkansen troupe member Arata Furuta plays Deus Prometh, a mysterious scientist who has been researching Burnish for years on behalf of a United Nations research team. He holds an important key to the story.

The website has revealed designs for Mad Burnish. Burnish are a race of flame-wielding beings that appeared suddenly in this world, and the Mad Burnish is an organization of Burnish.

Previously revealed cast members include:

Ken'ichi Matsuyama as Galo Thymos, a new member of the Burning Rescue team. He's still in his teens but has more attitude than anyone. He is a reckless meathead who runs headlong to the scene of a fire.
Taichi Saotome as Lio Fotia, the leader of Mad Burnish. Lio seems like someone who keeps their cool, but it's actually the opposite. Lio aims to burn everything with the power of a special flame called "Burnish Flare."
Masato Sakai as Kray Foresight, the administrator of the Independent Republic of Promepolis and chief director of the Foresight Foundation. He used to research fireproof building materials, but successfully developed an instant-freeze bullet that can put out a Burnish fire. Galo looks up to him.
Ayane Sakura as Aina Ardebit, a member of Burning Rescue who, like Galo, is in her teens. She is cool, calm, and professional at all times, and does things at her own pace. She plays the straight man to Galo and Varys.
Hiroyuki Yoshino as Remi Puguna, the vice-captain of Burning Rescue. He's a good-looking guy in his 20s, and he is as smart as he looks. He is an indispensable adviser to the captain Ignis.
Tetsu Inada as Varys Truss, a member of Burning Rescue, in charge of heavy machinery. He's a muscular guy in his 30s, and he's always training his body. He partners with the diminutive Lucia when out on a job.
Mayumi Shintani as Lucia Fex, a small mechanic at Burning Rescue. She handles the development and maintenance of Burning Rescue's equipment. She also constructed Galo's Matoi.
Rikiya Koyama as Ignis Ex, the captain of Burning Rescue, in his 30s. On missions he makes wise decisions and leads the other members. He trusts his team and they trust him.

(Character name romanizations listed below not confirmed.)

Director Hiroyuki Imaishi and scriptwriter Kazuki Nakashima are teaming again for the new project at Trigger. Trigger and Nakashima are credited with the original work. Shigeto Koyama is in charge of character design and mechanical design, and Sushio (Kill la Kill) is involved as an animator. Tomotaka Kubo (Mary and The Witch's Flower) is the art director, and Saishi Ichiko is in charge of logo design. Hiroyuki Sawano (Attack on Titan, Kill la Kill) is composing the music. SANZIGEN Animation Studio is handling the 3DCG animation. XFlag is credited with production, and TOHO will distribute the film.

The anime's protagonist is named Galo (seen with blue hair in image above), who is a new recruit in a rescue team. The anime will have mechs called "Matoi-Tech," named after the "matoi" banners that Edo-period firefighting units used.

The staff previously mentioned that the anime be similar in tone to Kill la Kill and Gurren Lagann — Imaishi and Nakashima's previous two collaborations.
