KONOSUBA - God's blessing on this wonderful world! Anime Film's Trailer Highlights Journey to Megumin's Hometown

New visual also unveiled for film

The AnimeJapan 2019 stage event for the anime of Natsume Akatsuki's KONOSUBA (Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! or KonoSuba – God's blessing on this wonderful world!!) light novel series debuted the full trailer for the Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! Kurenai Densetsu (KONOSUBA - God's blessing on this wonderful world! Crimson Legend) film on Sunday. The trailer previews the film's story, which centers on a journey to Megumin's hometown. The event unveiled a new visual for the film.

The film will open in Japan in 2019. Japanese cinema chain Aeon Cinema briefly listed the film with a July 12 opening date. However, the listing has been removed.

Takaomi Kanasaki is returning from the previous two anime seasons to direct the film at J.C. Staff (Studio DEEN animated the two TV anime series). Makoto Uezu is returning to write the scripts, Koichi Kikuta is returning to adapt Kurone Mishima's original character designs for animation, and Masato Kōda is returning to compose the music.

The returning cast includes:

  • Jun Fukushima as Kazuma
  • Sora Amamiya as Aqua
  • Rie Takahashi as Megumin
  • Ai Kayano as Darkness
  • Yui Horie as Wiz
  • Aki Toyosaki as Yunyun

The original light novels center on Kazuma, a shut-in student who dies in a traffic accident, but meets the goddess Aqua after death. He is given the chance to reincarnate in a fantasy world and can keep one thing with him. When he decides to choose Aqua herself, they are both transported to their new lives. The pair go on quests to earn just enough to buy food, shelter, and clothing, and eventually hire the sorceress Megumin and swordswoman Darkness, who they quickly learn are just as useless as they are.

The original KONOSUBA (Kono Subarashii Sekai ni Shukufuku o! or KonoSuba – God's blessing on this wonderful world!!) light novels by Natsume Akatsuki inspired two television anime seasons. The first season premiered in January 2016, and the second season premiered in January 2017. Crunchyroll streamed both seasons as they aired in Japan, and debuted an English dub for the first season on January 15.

Yen Press is releasing the original light novels and Masahito Watari's manga adaptation in English. The company has also licensed the Konosuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World! spinoff novel series.

The novels are also inspiring a dungeon role-playing game for PlayStation Vita and PlayStation 4. Additionally, the main characters will appear in the Isekai Quartet crossover anime this spring.
