Ghibli Offers Expanded Collection of Shorts on Blu-ray Disc

Walt Disney Japan announced on Wednesday that it is releasing Ghibli ga Ippai Special Short Short 1992-2016, a collection of Studio Ghibli shorts, on Blu-ray Disc and DVD on July 17. This is an expanded version of the out-of-print Ghibli ga Ippai Special Short Short DVD collection, which shipped in 2005. The new collection includes the original release's 22 shorts and an additional 11 shorts for a total of 33 Studio Ghibli shorts. The Blu-ray Disc and DVD will also include an English audio track for "On Your Mark," the music video of a song by the duo Chage and Aska.

Studio Ghibli distributed a bonus disc in 2014 with the anime short "On Your Mark" for free, to buyers of the Miyazaki Hayao Kantoku Sakuhin-shū (The Collected Works of Director Hayao Miyazaki) Blu-ray Disc and DVD boxes. Walt Disney Studios Japan had planned to include "On Your Mark" in the original June release of these Blu-ray Disc/DVD boxes. However, after Aska (Shigeaki Miyazaki) was arrested for drug possession in May 2014, Walt Disney Studios Japan delayed the boxes to July 2014 and removed "On Your Mark" from them. Walt Disney Studios Japan also pulled the original 2005 Ghibli ga Ippai Special Short Short DVD collection from retail release at the same time.
