Crunchyroll Adds Subtitled FLCL Progressive, FLCL Alternative Anime Series

posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
2 sequel series debut with English dub on Toonami in June, September 2018

Crunchyroll began streaming the FLCL Progressive and FLCL Alternative anime series on Friday worldwide outside of Asia. Both shows are available with subtitles only.

The company describes FLCL Progressive:

FLCL: Progressive tells the story of 14-year-old Hidomi, her classmate Ide, and two otherworldly beings, “Jinyu” and “Haruha Raharu,” who are determined to unlock their hidden potential. Mixed up in this is an all-powerful force known as “ATOMSK,” a gorgeous Chrysler Bel Aire… and a certain Vespa Scooter.

Crunchyroll describes FLCL Alternative:

FLCL: Alternative centers on the misadventures of 17-year-old Kana, a high school junior who spends her days hanging out with her besties, Mossan, Hijiri, and Pets. They live unremarkable lives, until the day a Mecha falls out of the sky, along with a strange woman named “Haruko.” Her plans for Kana and her friends involve the force known as “ATOMSK.” Kana will have to risk everything to decide whether or not to help… like she really has a choice!

FLCL Alternative and FLCL Progressive are sequels of the FLCL original video anime. FLCL Progressive's English-dubbed version premiered on Adult Swim's Toonami block in June 2018. The English dub of FLCL Alternative debuted on Toonami on September 8.

Both anime debuted as theatrical screenings in Japan in September, and a Blu-ray Disc box set with both anime shipped in Japan on October 31.

The subtitled versions were originally slated to debut on Adult Swim's website alongside the English dubbed versions in June and September 2018, but Jason DeMarco, senior vice-president and creative director for Adult Swim, stated in February that the subtitled versions would debut sometime in 2019.
