Terra Wars Smartphone Game Ends Service in December

posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Game launched as part of "Terra World" franchise on July 1

The official website for Mistwalker's Terra Wars smartphone game announced on Friday that the game will end service on December 24. Staff noted that they have been working since the game launched on July 1 to continue to provide better service for players. However, they decided that it will be difficult to offer service that will satisfy users from now on.

Sales of in-game Energy currency ended on Friday. Players who previously purchased in-game currency will be able to use it until service ends. After service ends, players will be able to request refunds for unused in-game currency. In addition to the game's service, user support for the game will end on December 24.

Mistwalker co-developed Terra Wars with Arzest (Yoshi's New Island). The game is based on characters from Terra Battle and animated using a "unique claymation technique." It is free to play with in-app purchases.

Mistwalker announced the game in June 2016 alongside its Terra Battle 2 game as part of the new "Terra World" franchise. Terra Wars held a closed beta test in May 2018, before launching more than one year later. Like Terra Battle 2, Terra Wars launched for iOS and Android devices.

Terra Battle 2 launched in Japan and North America in September 2017 and ended service in September 2018. Silicon Studio (Bravely Default) developed the game and Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi served as producer. Sakaguchi had hoped to expand the new "Terra World" franchise and use a similar numbering system to Final Fantasy.

The original Terra Battle smartphone RPG launched in October 2014. The game has been downloaded more than 2.8 million times.
