ADV Announces September 6 Releases

ADV ANNOUNCES SEPTEMBER 6 RELEASES

HOUSTON, July 20, 2005—ADV Films, the number one producer-distributor of anime in North America, is pleased to announce a new installment in the critically-acclaimed anime series Yugo the Negotiator, an affordable thin-pack compilation of classic anime, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi: Complete Collection, and the Korean live-action thriller Public Enemy – and all set to hit store shelves September 6!

YUGO THE NEGOTIATOR PAKISTAN 2: HONOR

“Highly Addictive. It's Fresh, It's Interesting, and It's Realistic. Don't Miss This!”

– Animenfo

ADV is proud to present the second volume in the innovative new anime series Yugo the Negotiator Pakistan 2: Honor, available everywhere anime DVDs are sold September 6. The unusual series is garnering a strong response from the otaku community.

Yugo the Negotiator is an anime tour of the world's hot spots, where terrorism is hatched and kidnappings are commonplace. Our hero is not a dashing spy or unstoppable soldier, but a globe-trotting negotiator whose mastery of multiple languages, psychology, and iron will set him apart from all others in his trade.

Based upon the original manga by Shinji Makari and Shu Akana, Yugo the Negotiator breaks into a fresh new genre of anime by featuring a highly realistic storyline and setting. Sometimes, a strong wit and a sharp tongue are the deadliest weapons a soldier can wield.

Synopsis: When negotiations erupt into all-out war, one man's resolution becomes a matter of life and death! Yugo's negotiations in Pakistan are off to a rocky start, as he is captured by the anti-government dacoits as a prisoner rather than received as an emissary. Sentenced to roast in the sun, he must survive gruesome torture to prove his worth as a hero to the fearsome dacoit leader, Yusuf Ali Mesa. To make matters worse, bloodthirsty Lieutenant Colonel Shadle from the Pakistani Army is hunting Yugo down at every turn to stop the negotiations and wipe out the dacoits. In a war of words, mind, and military might, Yugo must show his adversaries what a true hero is made of.

Yugo the Negotiator Pakistan 2: Honor (SRP $29.98 DVD) is a DVD-only release including episodes four through six, presented in both English 5.1 and Japanese 2.0 with English subtitles. Extras include an interview with series director Seiji Kishi, an interview with Japanese voice actor Takashi Hagino (Yugo), an interview with Takehiko Matsumoto (Character Designs) and Kazuharu Sato (Series Planning), a music video, “Personnel Dossiers” covering the major characters, and a special segment, “The Japanese Depiction of Pakistan: Comments on Yugo,” by cultural advisor Nawaz Charania and ADR director Scott McClennen, plus clean opening animation, clean closing animation, and previews of upcoming ADV Films releases.

MAGICAL SHOPPING ARCADE ABENOBASHI: COMPLETE COLLECTION

“High Concept Lunacy” – PLAY Magazine

ADV Films is pleased to announce a September 6 release for Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi: Complete Collection. This affordable thin-pack collection re-presents the acclaimed series in its entirety and is a must-have for the true anime fan.

Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi's unique brand of excitement fuses thrilling action, slapstick comedy and a bit of family drama into uproariously clever parodies of anime, video games and any other pop culture target that stumbles into its crosshairs. An instant classic upon its release in 2003, Abenobashi was created by GAINAX, the mega-talented production studio that revolutionized the anime industry in the nineties with Neon Genesis Evangelion and the early 21st century with FLCL. The series was directed by Hiroyuki Yamaga (Neon Genesis Evangelion, Wings of Honneamise) and co-produced by Madhouse (Vampire Hunter D, Trigun, Ninja Scroll).

Synopsis: Whoa! Hold on to your hats and get ready for one seriously wild and crazy ride as reality takes an extended vacation in Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi! Suddenly, 12-year-old Arumi and Sasshi find themselves in a world like their own…only not. And as they try to fight their way back to the real world, they face menacing mushrooms, big-breasted space pirates, a tripped-out transvestite, dinosaurs, dating sims, super-deformed mobsters, warfare, Hollywood horrors…and just when you think it can't get any crazier, it does! So let your inhibitions go and dive into the madcap, whacked-out world of Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi!

PUBLIC ENEMY

“Dark, chilling, and unforgivable… one of the best of its genre.” – kfccinema.com

ADV is proud to announce the DVD release of Public Enemy, the brilliant Korean live-action psychological thriller, available everywhere September 6.

Public Enemy is a great example of what makes Asian action cinema tick: On one hand, we have a less than reputable gung-ho cop; on the other we have a shrewd businessman with a psychotic and sometimes vicious temper. When their paths cross, an intense cat and mouse game ensues with terrible consequences for the loser. South Korea's 5th highest grossing film of 2002, “Public Enemy is excellently produced, with a fantastic performance from Sol Gyung-gu and really good chemistry between the two main characters.” (koreanfilm.org)

Synopsis: One rainy night, hard boiled cop Gang Cheol-jung has a weird encounter with a stranger who slips away. A week later, the dead bodies of an old couple are discovered with multiple stab wounds. Cheol-jung realizes that it could be the stranger, whose knife matches the stab wounds on the corpses. Later Cheol-jung meets a fund manager named Jo Gyu-hwan. He has a hunch that Gyu-hwan is the murderer but no evidence to back it up. Following his hunch, Cheol-jung trails Gyu-hwan and tries to intimidate him into confessing, but money and power is on Gyoo-hwan's side. The case gets complicated as the battle between Chol-joong and Gyu-hwan turns bloody. A showdown between a dirty cop and a merciless killer unfolds as things get more personal.

Public Enemy (SRP $19.98 DVD) is a DVD-only anamorphic release presented in both English 5.1 and Korean 2.0 with English subtitles.
