Initial D Screens Exclusively at the ImaginAsian

Highly Anticipated Hong Kong Film Initial D to Premiere Exclusively at The ImaginAsian

Hit Manga and Anime Series Comes to the Big Screen on December 30
at New York's Premier Asian American Theater

NEW YORK, December 12, 2005 — The ImaginAsian announced today that the theater will present the highly anticipated Hong Kong film, Initial D, in an exclusive one-week theatrical run. The movie opens on December 30th and runs for a full week.

“Initial D was one of the biggest hits to come out of Hong Kong this year, and we're excited that our audiences will have the opportunity to see it on the big screen, rather than waiting for the video release,” said Dylan Marchetti, Director of Theatrical Programming and Acquisitions at The ImaginAsian. “With a new, uncut 35mm subtitled print and Dolby Digital EX surround sound, there's no better place than The ImaginAsian to take in this action-packed thriller.”

Initial D features an all-star lineup of Asia's hottest teenage heartthrobs: Jay Chow, Edison Chen, Shawn Yue, Jordan Chan, Chapman To, and Anne Suzuki; as well as award-winning actors, Anthony Wong and Kenny Bee. From directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, the miracle duo behind the internationally acclaimed “Infernal Affairs” trilogy, this high-budget film is a perfect translation of the popular manga to the big screen.

Initial D introduces audiences to the exciting world of drift racing. The story centers around the fastest street racer of Mt. Akina, Japan, 18-year-old Takumi (Taiwanese pop star Jay Chou in his big screen debut). By day, he delivers tofu orders for his ex-racecar driving father (Anthony Wong). But by night, Takumi revs up the velocity and screeches his way around the dark slopes and narrow curves of the hills surrounding his home, perfecting the dangerous art of drifting.

Adapted from one of the most popular eponymous manga and anime series in Japan, Initial D raced its way to the top of the competitive 2005 summer box office all over Asia. The “D” of the title stands for drifting, a racing technique involving taking sharp corners at nearly full speed by sparingly using the brakes. The film also features the Toyota AE86, which has become the most popular car in Japan due to the success of the Initial D manga, video game, and film.

Tickets are $10 and are available at The ImaginAsian box office, located at the theater (239 E. 59th Street, between Second and Third Avenues). Moviegoers can also purchase tickets online and view a full schedule of show times at www.theimaginasian.com.
