Origin - Spirit of the Past nominated for Annecy

GDH K.K ("GDH"; HQ: Tokyo; President: Shinichiro Ishikawa) announced today that the long theatrical animated film "Origin-Spirit of the Past" (Japanese title: Gin-iro no kami no Agito) produced by GDH group company GONZO K.K. ("GONZO", HQ: Tokyo, President: Koji Kajita), has been nominated for the best film prize in the long film section of the 30th Annual Annecy International Animation Film Festival.

Established in 1960 as an animation festival derived from the Cannes International Film Festival, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival is the world's preeminent animation film festival. For those in the animation industry, inclusion in the festival is recognized as the highest honor an animated film can receive. The competition includes five sections: short and feature films, commercial films, TV films, graduation films and Internet films. The best films in each category are selected and reviewed by film festival judges. This year, 1,728 entries were submitted by award hopefuls from Europe, North America, Asia and other regions of the world and "Origin-Spirit of the past" was nominated as one of the best five films in the long film section. The first prize in each section, including the Grand Prix award winner, will be announced at the film festival, which will be held from June 5 to 10.

"Origin-Spirit of the Past," the first long format theater animation film by GONZO, is a magnificent fantasy adventure that explores the theme of what it means to be a human being and how human beings interact with nature. The film appeals to audiences everywhere with powerful images, GONZO's high-quality digital technology, and soul-stirring music.

GDH sees the nomination as an affirmation of its efforts in the international animation market and a confirmation of the quality and appeal of animations created by GONZO's talented production team. GDH will continue to work to deliver excellent films that can be enjoyed by animation fans both in Japan and around the world.

[ About the Annecy International Animation Film Festival ]
The largest, longest-running animation film festival in the world, the Annecy International Animation Film Festival was established in 1960 when JICA, the international animation festival born in 1956 as a non-competitive section of the Cannes Film Festival, became independent. Though the festival was operated from 1962 to 1984 by the International Animation Film Association (ASIFA), an organization dedicated to promoting the animation arts and whose members include authors and critics from all over the world, the Festival is currently sponsored by Cica. The animation film festival and an animation market called the Mifa are held concurrently. Annecy City, the site of the festival, has a population of about 130,000 and is located in the southeastern part of France near the border with Switzerland. Popular attractions include Lake Annecy, the clearest lake in Europe and the Thiou Canal, which flows out of Lake Annecy. The city is situated around an old town constructed in the 12th to 17th centuries, and is also a famous resort area.
