ADV Announces June 6 Releases

ADV ANNOUNCES JUNE 6 RELEASES

HOUSTON, April 25, 2006—ADV Films, the number one producer-distributor of anime in North America, is pleased to announce four exciting new titles set to hit the streets on June 6 – the third volume of Diamond Daydreams, the fifth and final installment of Ghost Stories, volume five of Hakugei – Legend of the Moby Dick, and a nifty new thin-pack collection of the fan-favorite series Wandaba Style!

DIAMOND DAYDREAMS: SHOKO / AKARI

“Interesting direction, great designs, and fitting music wrap around this above-average romance tale” – DVD Talk

ADV Films is proud to announce the third and final installment of Diamond Daydreams, a modern romance from the heart of Japan. Diamond Daydreams: Shoko / Akari will be available everywhere anime is sold June 6. “Daydreams features real characters in real situations of heartbreak and longing” (DVD Release Report).

Directed by Bob Shirohata (Gravitation) and created by Oiji Hiroi (Sakura Wars), Diamond Daydreams is actually six stories of love and loss that become intertwined in the bitter cold winter of Hokkaido. Based on the popular Japanese videogame for the PS2, Diamond Daydreams is lushly animated by fan-favorite Studio DEEN (Fruits Basket, Maison Ikkoku).

Synopsis: Nothing sends chills down the spine like a wish finally realized. Shoko runs a local radio program where she discusses with listeners their relationships and offers guidance as to how they can keep the fires burning. Her show is successful, her fans love her – she couldn't ask for a better job. The problem: she is having an affair with a married man. As their shaky relationship grows even more unstable, Shoko is forced to ask herself some very important and painful questions – questions she found much easier to answer when someone else was asking them.

Akari has lived alone with her father ever since her mother died. She spends her days working at the local confectionary, doing household chores and taking care of her father. He is an unsuccessful gold digger and a drunk. He spends the majority of his time and Akari's money at a small bar down the street from their house. Each night, he eventually drinks enough to get into a fight and gets kicked out. That's when Akari picks him, takes him home and puts him to bed. It looks like things couldn't get any worse. Until, Akari finds out about her father's illness.

Diamond Daydreams: Shoko / Akari (SRP $29.98 DVD) is a DVD-only release including episodes eight through twelve, presented in both English and Japanese with English subtitles. Video extras include a “behind the scenes in Japan” segment, in which we are treated to an actually live Japanese recording session, “Panda's Diamond Dust Drops Diary” Part III, “Jurota Toukibi's Love Dilemma,” a photo diary of this young man's trials at finding love, “Hokkaido Travelogue Part III: Jurota Toukibi's Love Dilemma,” the third installment of “DDD Time,” featuring Japanese actresses on screen answering letters as if they were on a radio show, and a Japanese language blooper reel, plus clean opening animation, clean closing animation, and previews of upcoming ADV Films releases.

GHOST STORIES: GRADUATION GHOULIES

“A Pee-In-Your-Pants Laugh Riot” —DVD Verdict

ADV Films, the number one producer-distributor of anime in North America, is proud to present the fifth and final volume of the year's most talked-about anime series! Ghost Stories: Graduation Ghoulies hits stores June 6, and it's sure to have fans rolling in the aisles. “Ghost Stories is one of the funniest things to come out of any anime studio in quite a while!”(Anime News Network)

The series has sparked a fair amount of debate among anime enthusiasts. Just to be clear, ADV's English dub of Ghost Stories follows the plot of the original exactly. But in place of a written script, ADR director Steven Foster simply blocked out scenes and let the actors go. It's the anime equivalent of Curb Your Enthusiasm, where the actors have freedom to riff of one another instead of simply following a prewritten script. The result is a fresh, lively, funny dub with a spontaneous energy that stands apart. “Your jaw will need to be picked up off the floor after five minutes of any given episode, and you very well may have to change pants” (DVD Verdict).

Of course, it's the performers that make the series sing. The voice credits read like an anime dream team! “Ghost Stories is definitely something English dub voice actor fans will eat up. … In other words if you're a fan of the ADV regulars (Chris Patton, Christine Auten, Greg Ayres, Hilary Haag, Illich Guardiola, Monica Rial and Rob Mungle), it becomes a run out and buy purchase” (Ain't It Cool News).

Synopsis: It's the final semester for our intrepid grade school ghoul fighters. But will they live to see graduation? Doesn't seem likely when a vengeful snow spirit screws with their winter break, a decapitated biker tries to get some head, a demon dj pumps up the volume, and the most powerful ghost the kids have ever encountered tries to make the kids' mother's memorial service into a group funeral. So send out the evil invitations to the spectacular supernatural finale that has critics and audiences screaming—with laughter.

Ghost Stories: Graduation Ghoulies (SRP $29.98 DVD) is a DVD-only release including episodes 17-20, presented in both English and Japanese with English subtitles. On disc extras include “Ghost Profiles,” with pictures and background text on the Japanese ghosts and demons that populate the series, clean opening animation, clean closing animation, and previews of upcoming ADV Films releases.

HAKUGEI – LEGEND OF THE MOBY DICK: DEATH AND REBIRTH

“A great spin on a classic story that has withstood the test of time.”– Anime Frontier

ADV Films, the number one producer-distributor of anime in North America, is pleased to announce the fifth volume in its adaptation of Melville's classic tale of obsession, Hakugei – Legend of the Moby Dick: Death and Rebirth, which is set to hit the streets on June 6!

The first volume in Legend of the Moby Dick, which PLAY magazine hailed as “the sleeper hit of 2005,” has been well received by fans and critics alike. Anime Frontier describes Legend of the Moby Dick as “a great spin on a classic story that has withstood the test of time,” and Active Anime's reviewer said it “rocket-launches the classic tale of Moby Dick into the starry expanse of space adventure.

Directed by Osamu Dezaki (The Rose of Versailles), Legend of the Moby Dick is distinguished by lush artwork and dazzling panoramas. Set in the far distant future, this series relocates the search for the great white to a crew of space borne scavengers and the doomed planet they must rally to protect.

Synopsis: One man will be reborn by the power of friendship. Another will awaken into an endless nightmare. When Ahab challenges Murato to a one-on-one cage match he soon learns that the 9-foot heavyweight space champion may be a bit out of his league. With his crew captured and his harpoon disabled, he's forced to rely on some old-fashioned boxing skills he honed in space prison. In the battle that ensues, two men will meet their demise and the war for independence will take a frightful new turn. Meanwhile, internal strife in the Federation Government results in a new, aggressive stance against the Civilian Movement, as the brutal 7th Fleet is called in to wreak havoc on Moad. With only two months until the planet is destroyed, Ahab's crew is united with long-lost friends, and a new hope is revived as they prepare for the final showdown with Moby Dick.

Hakugei – Legend of the Moby Dick: Death and Rebirth (SRP $29.98 DVD) is a DVD-only release including episodes 19-21, presented in both English 5.1 and Japanese 2.0 with English subtitles. Video extras include character sketches and another installment of the “Space Whalers Lexicon,” plus clean opening animation, clean closing animation, and previews of upcoming ADV Films releases.
