Pacific Media Expo 2009 is Less than Two Weeks Away

It's almost time!

Pacific Media Expo 2009 will be at the LAX Hilton from November 6-8 (Friday through Sunday, Veteran's Day weekend).

The hotel room block closes on FRIDAY! Our special $99/night room rate was originally going to close on the 22nd, however the Hilton graciously extended it for us. Please reserve rooms using the link at http://PacificMediaExpo.com/info/location.html and note that some of the hotel's pages may not mention the extension yet. If rooms are still available, they will be displayed when you choose your booking options.

SPECIAL OFFER FOR HOTEL GUESTS with regular Adult or Child memberships: Pick up your PMX membership badges at Hotel Registration when you check in! Avoid the morning lines and stop by later for your freebies. For details, reply to this email by Oct 31 and request "Main Desk Pickup", and a Registration staffer will contact you. (Sorry, badges for Press, Industry, and Exhibitors are not eligible for Main Desk Pickup as your check-in is more complicated.)

Have you been checking the PMX website? If not, here's what we've been cooking up for you this year...

Guests of Honor:

This year's guests (in order of announcement) are: Fashion Designer Takuya Sawada of Takuya Angel, Anime Director Shinichi "Nabeshin" Watanabe, Clothing designers Maki and Asuka of Angelic Pretty, Visual Kei rock band UchuSentai NOIZ, and Fashion Designer Gashikon of Hangry & Angry.

Music:

Pacific Music Live 09 presents our Friday night concert featuring UchuSentai NOIZ, Papillon, Rusika, and Ai Che'rie (extra ticket or Full membership required). Afternoon music sets (no extra ticket required) are being planned for Saturday and Sunday. Independent Japanese Singer/Songwriter Kiryu performs on Saturday and will be available throughout the weekend to meet and interact with fans!

Remember, the PMX Dance is the perfect way to end an evening (especially with Takuya Sawada of Takuya Angel as a guest DJ Saturday), but PMX Karaoke (beware the DATABASE OF MYSTERY!) is the perfect way to NEVER end an evening.

Fashion:

Angelic Pretty designers Maki and Asuka are back, with their Magical Boutique clothing store and a special Saturday event for their fans, the Angelic Pretty Wonderland Tea Party (extra ticket required, sales end Oct 31st) which also features L.A. fashion designer Tarina Tarantino as a special guest. New for 2009, Takuya Angel and h.Naoto make their PMX Fashion Mall debuts with Boutique stores of their own.

On Sunday, all 3 brands will participate in the first ever PMX Fashion Show, probably the first ever multi-brand Japanese fashion show in the U.S. ! Complete with dozens of models and a 24-foot catwalk, this event is open to all Sunday attendees.

More Shopping! and Food:

Last year's Pocky Tasting Room was so popular we had to find a way to top it! This year, a modest extra admission fee ($5+) gets you into MESHI-YA, the room of Japanese food brands Glico (Pocky), Sushi Boy, Bentoss (Japanese Lunch Boxes), and Sangaria (drinks like Ramune). Sake brand Hakutsuru will run a tasting stand "SAKE-DOKORO" for those with proper ID. And the FAR EAST MARKET will feature products and services from a number of Japanese lifestyle brands (WEBICHI cosmetic products, Deco-Den, kayac's Art Meter, and Koby Production video studio).

Asian fusion foodies take note! Saturday only from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Kogi BBQ will park their scrumptious Korean taco truck at the LAX Hilton! Come find out why thousands of people in Los Angeles follow kogiBBQ on Twitter and chase them all over the city.

Martial Arts:

Filipino Martial Arts organization WEKAF holds its 2009 Western Regional Tournament at PMX all day Saturday. The Tournament itself starts at 9:30 AM and goes until mid-afternoon. A series of exhibition matches is planned for Saturday night.

Special Indie Films Presentation:

PMX is proud to add to our Filipino programming a movie so good Rob Schneider left happy after watching it. Brown Soup Thing, written and directed by Edward J. Mallillin will be screening on Saturday, November 7, 2009 from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in Los Angeles B/C. Arrive an hour early for a panel discussion with some of the cast!

Korean Drama:

PMX K-Drama is back, bigger, and better than ever before. Raffles will be held during the screenings for K-Drama posters, and two DVD box sets courtesy of YA Entertainment. Come laugh and cry and get in touch with your Inner Asian Mom at PMX K-Drama!

Video Games:

The PMX Game Room returns for its second year, with so many games that it just won't be possible to offer them all at the same time! The game lineup will be changed every hour, with plenty of popular, classic, or just plain obscure games to choose from whenever you stop by.

Photo Booths, Studios, and Hall Photos:

Pics or it didn't happen? We've got you covered. PMX 2009 is very photo friendly, with so many photo/video services showing up that it's pointless to list them here, just ask when you arrive! Also, we are working on getting a pair of high end purikura machines, so imported you'll need to ask their attendant for translations. (Note, there are still arrangements to be worked out, so that's all we can say for now.)

CosFest 2009:

Last, and most definitely not least, CosFest is our Official Cosplay Competition. Moving back to Saturday evening by popular demand, CosFest 2009 features cash prizes for the top winners. The 2009 halftime show features Mikarin and USA Musume.

Thanks for your time and we hope to see you at PMX this year.
