Japan's Top Anime Streaming Service and World's Leading Asian Media Lifestyle Brand Partner on Streaming and Interactive Entertainment Initiative Based on Legendary Anime Studio's Omnipresent Franchise
San Francisco, Calif. (May 6, 2010) – Crunchyroll, Inc., in conjunction with Bandai Channel Co., Ltd. and Sunrise Inc., announced today the launch of a broad marketing initiative centered around Sunrise's lead intellectual property, Gundam. As part of the initiative, episodes of Gundam Wing are available now on Crunchyroll's website and network of sites, services and devices, and a brand-new Crunchyroll-developed interactive Gundam Wing social media application is now available on Facebook. To support the launch, Bandai Channel, as a group company within the Bandai Namco Group, has provided logistical support to Crunchyroll. The application can be accessed at http://apps.facebook.com/gundam_wing/.
The interactive social media application represents Crunchyroll's second application derived from a Japanese franchise, and the first developed in partnership with Sunrise and Bandai Channel. The social media application will utilize Crunchyroll's proprietary X-Wars interactive application engine as well as its social media marketing optimization planning capabilities.
Crunchyroll CEO and Co-Founder Kun Gao said: “Gundam is one of the key anime franchises that has ever come out of Japan. We hope that through this close cooperation with Sunrise and Bandai Channel, we will be able to not only increase its popularity in North America but play a role in spreading an important part of Japanese culture.”
Gundam Wing is now available to free users as well as subscribers on Crunchyroll, with Crunchyroll Anime Members able to view the videos free of outside advertisements. There is no charge to install the Gundam Wing social media application, and only a Facebook account is required.
