Pacific Media Expo hosts Way of the Stick and the Blade: Tournament of Filipino Martial Arts, Southern California's Largest Filipino Martial Arts Tournament

PASADENA, CA - This year, the Way of the Stick and the Blade will be held at Pacific Media Expo 2010 (PMX) in the Pasadena Hilton. The tournament will feature three different competitions: Esgrima, Kali, and Arnis. Competitors of all experience levels, from first time competitors to long time practitioners looking to test and hone their skills, are welcome to compete.

Esgrima (Forms/Sayaws) and Kali (Full Contact Stick) fighting will be held on Saturday, November 13th from 9am-5pm. Both competitions follow the rules and regulations of the World Eskrima Kali Arnis Federation (WEKAF), the largest competitive Filipino Martial Arts Organization in the world. Arnis (Mixed Weapons Padded Blade Sparring), which features the use of any single blade, double blade, or a blade and shield during competition, will be held on Sunday, November 14th at 9am-2pm and follow the double elimination format. Instructor Guro Gendrano Jr. will be giving a demonstration of the fighting style before the event.

Martial artists can register to compete before the convention by emailing Steve del Castillo at sdel730(at)gmail.com or Victor Gendrano Jr. at h2ofma(at)yahoo.com OR at the convention on Friday, November 12th from 7-10pm, or from 7-9am on the day of each competition. Experienced Judges and referees can also register to moderate the competitions by contacting Steve del Castillo.

Registrations fees are $75 for the first event, $25 for each addition event, and $10 for a tournament only event. Competitors must also register and purchase tickets to PMX at www.pacificmediaexpo.com. Prizes will also be donated by Filipino American grocery chain, Island Pacific.
