New People Web Portal Goes Live With Series Profiling Prominent Japanese Modern Artists


San Francisco, CA – April 25, 2011NEW PEOPLE Entertainment, a film division of NEW PEOPLE, Inc. that focuses on the licensing and distribution of Japanese films and media, has announced the beta launch of its own exclusive web channel where audiences will be able to instantly stream a variety of the company's films and content. NEW PEOPLE's Online Channel is now available at www.newpeoplechannel.com. Films are $2.99 for a 48 hour rental.

The channel will launch with a catalog of NEW PEOPLE Artist Series documentaries – Yayoi Kusama: I Love Me, Daido Moriyama: Stray Dog, Hisashi Tenmyouya: Samurai Nouveau, Makoto Aida: Cynic in the Playground, and Katsura Funakoshi: Whispering Gaze. Hisashi Tenmyouya: Samurai Nouveau – A graphic designer turned contemporary artist, Hisashi Tenmyouya brings his own style of Neo-Traditional Japanese Painting to the art world. Tenmyouya reveals his soul through melding of modern urban subjects with traditional methods of painting. (Directed by Go Ishizaki / 80min / 2006)

Makoto Aida: Cynic in the Playground – Known for his diverse and controversial works in various media, Makoto Aida shares his work and private life as he creates his "Human Project" and "Shinjuku Castle." Through his creative process his unique character surfaces.

Katsura Funakoshi: Whispering Gaze – Witness the visionary sculptor Katsura Funakoshi as he breathes life into camphor wood. His human-like sculptures are known for their distant gaze as if pondering philosophical thoughts and projecting subtle yet bold emotions.
