Senri Oe & Morning Musuko at Japan Day on Sun May 22

Save the Date!
Japan Day @ Central Park 2011
~ “GANBARE! JAPAN!” ~

In response to the devastating events in Japan, Japan Day @ Central Park, a major cultural event now in its fifth year, has organized a galvanizing stage performance with other fun activities on May 22nd with the theme GANBARE!JAPAN! (You can do it, Japan!).

Featuring many top performers from Tokyo, Japan Day @ Central Park's GANBARE! JAPAN! will offer the local Japanese community and all New Yorkers the opportunity to show their solidarity and support for the Japanese people, culture and nation.

Since 2007, Japan Day @ Central Park has become an increasingly popular celebration of Japanese culture. With family-friendly activities like calligraphy and origami and its dynamic stage show, Japan Day brought over 50,000 participants to Central Park last year.

Japan Day @ Central Park was founded with a three-fold mission: 1) to build bridges of cultural understanding between the people of Japan and the U.S., 2) to say "Thank you, New York!" for providing such a nurturing home to America's largest Japanese community, and 3) to facilitate stronger grassroots connections within thelocal Japanese community.

This year, we will send the message of “GANBARE!JAPAN!” to the people of Japan through the “Japan Day Festival” on Sunday, May 22nd, which will feature stage performances and activity tents. Our special guests will include Circus, Senri Oe, DMC, AISHA, Keiko Matsui, Mai Fukui, Lainie Sakakura and TEN-YOU, who is also our Official Artist for this year's event.

Throughout the day, in the Naumburg Bandshell area near the stage show, there will be several activity tents for New Yorkers to experience Japanese culture first hand – and “hands on.” A "learn Japanese tent will introduce key Japanese words (e.g., GANBARE!, which means “you can do it!”). Other activities include Origami, Robot Sumo Battle, the Hello Kitty Photo Booth, Calligraphy, Kabuki Face Painting and Traditional toys.

In the spirit of GANBARE! JAPAN!, donations will be accepted at the "Japan Day Festival," as well as on our website -www.japandaynyc.org, with all donations going in their entirely to organizations active in relief and recovery efforts in Japan.
