The One Piece Podcast Goes to Japan: Interviews and Announcements

NEW YORK, NY - July 25, 2013 - The One Piece Podcast started in 2009 with a vision: to bring the manga and anime series One Piece to a global audience. This August, we take the next step.

The podcast will be heading to Japan to film a video documentary series for The One Piece Podcast starting August 4th. As part of the series we will have live video events, video interviews, video tours of Japan, and cultural insights. We will visit One Piece events, exhibitions, One Piece bars, Shueisha, and more.

Earlier this month we announced the first guest to the "One Piece Podcast Goes to Japan" event, Takeru Isaka, Manga Editor for One Piece since December 2010. As editor, Mr. Isaka works closely with creator Eiichiro Oda on a weekly basis and handles all matters related to the One Piece manga. As a representative of all fans, he offers Oda advice on story presentation and progression. This will be his first interview with any Western press. The interview will take place at the headquarters for Weekly Shonen Jump at Shueisha, Inc. in Chiyoda, Japan.

We will also be speaking with the manager of the Mugiwara Store (The "Straw Hat Store") located on the sixth floor of Parco Part 1 building in Tokyo's colorful Shibuya district. Opening to customers on September 28 2012, the Mugiwara Store is the world's first permanent One Piece store with merchandise ranging from figures & fashion to cutlery and comic books. While still less than a year old, its success has already paved the way for limited-run versions of the store to open across Japan.

We are taking fan questions on our forums (http://onepiecepodcast.com/forums)! Can't think of anything you'd like to ask? Check out the store's site and see if anything catches your interest! http://www.mugiwara-store.com/

The podcast has been granted some valuable time with the minds that brought together the world's first Shonen Jump amusement park, J-World. Bandai Namco wants to hear from you, so send in your questions: What are the chances of some of the attractions going overseas for cons? How much input did Eiichiro Oda have on the development? You wanna know? Then it's our business to ask! http://www.namco.co.jp/tp/j-world/

Falling under the category of 'People you never knew you wanted to hear from until just now' is One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda's high school homeroom teacher! Significantly different from their roles in the States, homeroom teachers in Japan remain the same for each class all three years of high school. During that time the teachers are highly invested in the futures of their students by prepping them for interviews and even performing routine home visits for parent-teacher conferences. This project couldn't have come at a better time as Oda-san's homeroom teacher is not only still employed at his school, but he's now the principal! What's more is, we hear he has some memorabilia from Oda-san's high school days to show us!

The Podcast will be heading to Kumamoto's fine steak restaurant where Oda-san worked part-time during his high school days, Baratei. Sound familiar? It should, the famous floating restaurant Baratie and its colorful crew from the pages of One Piece were based on Oda-san's experiences working at Baratei. Take advantage of this incredibly rare opportunity and send us any questions you want us to ask!

You will get to see everything we see. We will give you a perspective of Japan only we at The One Piece Podcast can. Here are some of the other events we'll be visiting and reporting on:

Bandai Namco "Weekly Shonen Jump" Theme Park (Ikebukuro, Tokyo)
United States of Odaiba 2013 (Odaiba, Tokyo)
One Piece Baratie Restaurant (Odaiba, Tokyo)
One Piece Grand Arena Tour (Shizuoka Twin Messe, Shizuoka)
One Piece Planetarium (Toshima-ku, Tokyo)
Universal Studios Japan - One Piece Premier Summer Campaign (Osaka, Japan)

We will be making even more interview and location announcements as we get closer to the event.
