Unplugged Expo Returns to Toronto for Another Weekend of Awesome September 27th - 28th 2014

June 25th 2014 – Toronto Canada – With the success of another great year "Unplugged: A Weekend of Awesome 3" begins 2014 with a new lineup of guests, performances, and open discussions aimed at encouraging awareness of geek culture, and helping to unite geeks of all genres to appreciate each other in an open exchange of ideas and experiences. Unplugged Power Ranger Celebration!
Unplugged takes a look back at over 20 years of Power Rangers, as we remember the show that for many was their first introduction to Live Action Fighting Dramas. With activities, panel discussions, door prizes, and special guests appearances, the Unplugged Power Ranger Celebration will be a treat for everyone.

Joining our celebration is veteran Power Ranger Johnny Yong Bosch who played “Adam Park” the “Black Ranger”, “Green Zeo Ranger”, and “Green Turbo Ranger”. Johnny is the first announced guest for our Power Ranger Celebration at Unplugged Expo with more to come.

YouTube Channels; not just 15 minutes of fame
Online Video has become the most popular way to reach audiences who share similar passions and beliefs. Some create fan made homages to their favourite personalities, others review the latest gadgets and trends, or look back at some of the popular culture that we fondly remember.

The possibilities are endless and no one is sure what the next Gangnam Style will be. Unplugged will showcase several homegrown Internet channels currently making waves on YouTube.

  • At age 22 YouTube Personality Domics is quickly becoming a big deal among younger viewers of his channel. Domics takes creates animated shorts with funny yet compelling stories about his everyday life and experiences to connect with his audience. Often humorous, and sometimes emotional, Domics has over half a Million Subscribers on his YouTube Channel. Fans will be able to meet Domics in person at Unplugged Expo.
  • 3KillaBytes is an incredibly popular Video Game / Pop-Culture review channel on YouTube now featured on the NODE network. 3KillaBytes are well known for their quirky style and humorous but honest opinions on game reviews. Jason Hooft and Kat Jovey have reviewed well over 200 games, countless movies and pop culture trends since 2009.

Performances
Unplugged Expo is proud to present the talented group of young artists known as “Fandom Musicals” to the Chestnut Conference Centre. First performing their “Kingdom Hearts” Parody at Unplugged 2013, Fandom Musicals has since gone on to create their own original Improv show “Off the Top of Our Heads!” as well as their Space Drama Parody “Star Explorers”. Fans of Comedy can watch the Fandom Hearts at the Chestnut Conference Centre Sept 27th at Unplugged Expo.

Returning this year is Canadian video game cover-artists James Ronald who's popular YouTube Channel "Epic Game Music" has garnered the attentions of video game composers like "Tommy Tallarico" of Video Games Live. James Brings his awesome guitar techniques to the stage playing classic tracks from the 8-bit and 16-bit era with that signature James Ronald Style!

Participating Geek Groups
The Geek Girls will be in attendance to help Unplugged usher in its third year. GeekxGirls.com is a website of dedicated women who love to dress up as their favourite fictional characters. Cartoons, anime, video games, movies and television, these girls bring an amazing mix of talent and passion to their craft all the while presenting themselves as strong independent leaders in the geek community. If you think you have what it takes to be a Geek Girl, visit them at Unplugged and show your stuff!

The popular Blog G33KPRON.com brings their unique take on the Nerd culture to Unplugged. Along with their website which covers everything from current reviews for games, movies, TV, comics, and gadgets. G33KPRON will be showcasing various costuming tips, and be on hand to answer any questions fans have about their site and events they have planned for the future.

Children and adult attendees are encouraged to come dressed as their favourite characters for a chance to win special prizes at the masquerade costume contests. Attendees are also welcome to attend lectures, workshops, interactive exhibits and shop for collectables at the vendor and exhibit area.

With more guests being confirmed for this year, 2014 is shaping up to be a great time for geeks to come together and celebrate what makes us unique as a culture.
